If i were to look at a used 06 350z how would I be able to tell if the motor has been replaced through dealership recall or if the present motor still has oil consumption issues? This is really my biggest concern with the 06' model.
The '06 engine was the V-1 & the new version is the V-2 which came out in July of '07 & included modified rings, pistons & other changes which Nissan at the time wouldn't say. BTW headlights & tails look great on the '06!!
Use carfax & decide.

do you have any idea what you are talking about old man? Around these parts people refer to these engines by the last two letters of designation. DE & HR

The 06' engine was a rev-up which was an update of the vq35de (the same engine used in 03-05) with the addition of variable exhaust timing.

The 07' was the introduction of the vq35hr which included a number of differences including a completely revised intake system w/ dual throttle bodies, heads, differences in the block, internals, and exhaust.

Carefully evaluate davidv's post, it has all the info you need.

now /thread?

Hey Jerk....there's a difference in the same year of the '06 model engine. The V-1 & the V-2 as referred by Nissan in '06. OP was lookin' to buy a '06 model......I know exactly what I'm talking about!

either an 06 has been replaced for oil consumption or it hasn't.

The 350Z is not for you. Have you looked at the RSX. You get performance AND reliability in a single package.
