Default Trying to buy a 350z
Hey guys,

I recently discovered the many virtues of the Z and have a burning desire to get one! I'm 17 years old and just recently bought an '05 V6 Mustang from a dealer for a really good deal.

The Mustang is convertible, something that made me very weary of buying it as I do not like the look. The main reason I settled is because it is so hard to find a standard nowadays, and that's what I wanted.

Anyways, as summer is rolling around, this would be the ideal time to try and sell the car and purchase a Z. Like I said, its a standard 05 convertible. It has 95,000 miles, which I understand is high, but we also purchased a one year extended warranty and the car was purchased from a respectable dealer.

So here is my question. How realistic is it for me to break even selling my car and purchasing a base '03 Z with similar mileage? I still owe my father about 1800 on the car, so I would like to avoid any further debt.

I understand expectations may be completely unrealistic, but the book values of the two cars are at least similar. Let me know what you think of the plan. All honest answers are appreciated, even if they aren't what I want to hear.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yeah, I agree on the convertible thing. When you crash it in three months you'll be glad you have a hard top.

I've been on this forum for two months now, one of these threads gets made like every week and a half. I don't know how you guys put up with it.

Admins should make it to where you need like 50 posts to create a thread or something.

Book value vs Real value... Look on cars.com and find 350z and look at the market price. I don't trust book value that is recommended cuz it is rarely accurate for the case for certain cars. Z's book value is likely understated. Mustangs are a dime a dozen and their book value is likely overstated. Realistically even if you are buying a used car, the only way you can get it at a good deal is if the price point is where the dealer/seller still makes profit off the sale. They won't sell it to you less than what they paid for regardless of what online sites tell you what a car should be worth. But good luck ;o I'd keep the car you got now if I were you and get a better paying job before attempting to buy a car at your age.

Mustang Value -350Z Value -1800

If the mustang is 1800 more than the Z youll break even. Sounds realistic to me.

I apologize for bothering you all, I simply had a question.

I'm confused as to what you mean by saying I don't own the Mustang. Because still owe a small amount of money on it?

And I don't even mean break even as far as paying off my debt. I just don't want my debt to increase anymore. I was hoping to match the price of a Z with the money I get for selling my car and finish paying off the $1800.

The reason you are being a given a hard time is because you made a dearly mistake of telling everyone your age...The vets on here LOVE to give the kids a hard time because they paid twice as much for the same car and then people like you come on the forums everyday asking the same questions.

Next time don't post your age, there really was no point in doing so.

While that is true, I don't see why it would be an issue. My father isn't going to stop me from selling the car.
