I have a job and I make fairly decent money. I have no issue with saving up more money. The only flaw with that plan is that it will take time. And while I'm willing to wait, this is an ideal time to sell my car, as the weather is getting nice and the demand for convertibles is at its peak.

You say that now, but maybe in a couple of months, a cheaper better Z could show up for sale. You never win. What I can advise is, chances are you will be driving a Z (suppose you don't total it) much longer than the amount of time you'd spend saving up. Might as well do it proper.

Chances are you can't break even because private party prices are usually lower than dealers. But we can't really help you, go kbb your car, sell it, and then look for a Z in your price range.

Im assuming you dont pay for your own insurnace or i would assume you would factor in the fact your V6 mustang has cheaper insurance then the 03 Z you want.

I do pay for insurance. I got a quote from our insurance company and the Z didn't hike it up. We have a beater on our insurance for those purposes.

No, your daddy pays for insurance if its not in your name.

and its insurance fraud if you have a beater listed as your primary driver and its not.

Call the FBI on him

My insurance company allowed me to list my car as pleasure when its known to be my commuter car. No felonies reported.

I know I know, youre just trying to rattle the noob's cage. However id bet that 99% of the population has done something similar at one point in time, whether it be insurance (annual mileage), taxes (renters credit), vehicle title transfers ("gift" to avoid sales tax), etc.

This is silly. Goodbye.

Alright, fine if you want to nitpick every little point.

My father sends the check to the insurance company. A day prior to him doing that, I give him cash in the same amount as the check. You got me.

And yes, my name is not on the title. So I guess my father will sell the car and then give me the money.

Let me point out where you went wrong:

You stated your age, you asked for financial advice, you talked about your dad.

Just get the Z. When you are older and realized you made a stupid decision, you can have yourself to blame

Hey kid, just sell your mustang and buy the Z.

Don't wreak it though, if you want to wreak it, make sure it's the Mustink!
