Default looking to step up from the s-chassis!

Whats going on guys, first time ever posting on any kind of forum! I never cared for them because it seems like people just talk to much **** about whatever anybody does, and I dont care for it. Hopefully that isnt the case here!
Im hoping I can get some suggestions from you guys on which would be the best route for me, Ive done some research and see that the 03/04 have synchro problems and that the 05 enthusiast and 06 350's have oil consumption problems. I dont have the money for an 07/newer unless it has a salvage title which I really dont want to deal with so basically should I be looking at an 03/04 6sp and if the trans goes out replace it with a newer trans? or do the 03/04's also burn mass amounts of oil?
Ive always loved 350's and every z car ever for that matter and I really dont want this to be a bad experience.

currently have a 89 s13 hatch with an sr20, and just feel like its time to step up in the world and get a z

you'd be surprised how low some of the newer model Zs go for now. you can find an 07/08 with like 60-70k miles for $15k. but if you were not to go that route i'd look for 04-05. and only the 05 track models which have the "revup" engine CAN have oil consumption issues.

buy one, skip the 06 and 05 track/anniversary and you will be good
test drive it, buy it, enjoy it

Technically, there are 04's and 04.5's, which have the first set of improvements. There is s sticky somewhere(hint: search), but I think they all have a production date after 1-1-2004. Suspension changes, minor changes to interior, etc.
Which model(Base, Enthusiast, Performance, Track) are you looking for?

my first car was an s13 hatch as well. single cam though. its definitely quite the upgrade, but i'd suggest you drive a Z before you really plan on buying it if you haven't already, assuming you're going to sell your s13 for it.

sr 240's are pretty fun and have lots of potential. to gain any power from the VQ youll be spending a lot more than you're used to.

not deterring you from buying one, though. look for an 03-04 with low miles. ultimately, sometimes 07-08's come up for cheap (15-16k). like stated above id probably get a loan for the few extra grand.

so 04.5 seems like the way to go then hmmm
as far as the interior and sound go I dont really care as long as it has an lsd im all for it, the brembo's would be a big plus also.

yeaaa I considered that but if anything did go wrong then I would be stacking bills on top of bills for the payments and then the repairs and I dont wanna deal with that, I like paying with my cash for all my vehicles.

my first 240 was single cam also which started to break in half due to rust issues (crappy illinois winters) then I got this, love the car but need a daily.

Im not looking to make alot of power I wouldnt even worry about upgrading anything under the hood for awhileee id get coilovers better bushings all around and call it a day. so as far as the upgrading potential I dont really care.

I will deffinately consider the loan but I think whats its going to come down to is me picking one up for like 10k, but hey we'll see! Just gotta clean up my s13 and sell it then hopefully in the next month be on my way to get a z!
