Default Which Z?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a 350Z and have been doing much research on these cars. I was thinking of purchasing an 06 MT Touring but I eventually read up on the oil consumption problem with the revups which has kind of put me off of the 06's. The two I'm currently looking at are the 06 MT Touring(75xxx KM -- $17K) and an 07 MT Base(50k Miles -- Asking $18.5). Obviously the HR is a much better engine and puts my mind at ease regarding the oil consumption, but the Touring's options are pretty nice. Both cars have a clean carproof but the 06 had 4(Plus 2 dealerships) owners in 5 years on the Used Vehicle Information Package, with the longest owner having it for about 30k KM. Seems fishy to me.

Would really like to get some feedback from you guys on this...should I just stay away from the 06's in general? Or are there only certain ones that are affected by this problem? I've done a lot of research on this forum among others regarding these cars before I signed up just now, so please bear with me...wouldn't want to buy a lemon.

Thanks in advance for your help.

As an '05 6MT owner, go for an 05' 6MT DE, or an HR motor. The rev-up motor was not around very long for good reason.

Alright thanks guys. I'm going to stay away from the 06's and check out the HR one today after work. Anything I should look for? It's an 07 Base.

Any HR 07+ will do. The trims are just preference. You want real cheap, get Base. You low on cash, get Enthusiast. You want nice interior, get Touring. You like nice interior and are real lucky, get yourself a Grand Touring. You like race car, get Nismo.

Happy to announce I put a deposit down on the 07 Base! Will be picking it up sometime this week. The guy has coilovers on the car and intakes. He did the rear windshield wiper delete and got the S2000 black antenna, car is in mint condition top to bottom. Has all the stock parts too that I'll be getting when I pick the car up. So excited, I had a Celica GTS & a 04 Maxima, so this is a definite upgrade, still hasn't kicked in yet. The sound of the engine & exhaust at 5k RPM really are jizz-worthy, excuse my language lol.

I'll post some pics soon. Thanks again for all the help and replies everyone

HR is the best, ur pretty much getting a 370z engine with the best looking body style,

do a quick youtube search of 350z hr vs 370z and u can see the cars are identical in performance

Congratulations on the car man, post pics of it. Only downside to a base is the open differential , which is why I upgraded to a Quaife and 4.08 gear

Thanks guys. Yeah, I was thinking of getting an aftermarket VLSD later on but that's a whole 'nother story, gonna do some research up on that in the forum to know which direction to go. Just can't really believe I copped a Z lol, my buddies are all excited for me to pick it up, one of whom who called me a "b*tch" cuz I got one of his fav cars lol. Gonna be some fun summer days going cruising with some friends.

I took a couple of pics when I went to see it, ill try to post them with my phone. Ill post more when I pick it up.

Sup y'all...^has 50k miles. Picked 'er up on Sunday after the guy got it safetied. I consider myself a very good driver but this car has seriously humbled me...it's pretty damn fast and my first true sports car as I'm only 22 but I've babied the heck out of it, cause I'm worried about picking up a speeding ticket(s) or wrapping it around a pole, last thing I need if I'm wanting to get into the police force. Anywho here's another pic, and I appreciate the support and positive feedback from everyone.

Wow bro, that's a beaut! Mind sharing what you paid? And also what you put down/monthly payments are? Don't mean to be intrusive, I'm just in a similar situation to you except don't have the car yet

Thanks everyone. I paid 17750 for it, 07 with 50 miles, safety & e-tested. Came with coil overs, intakes and all the stock parts as well. Mint condition. Monthly payments are set up for only 320 a month and I decided not to put anything down since I want 5k in the bank as insurance in case anything happens. But I'll probably be paying more than the 320/month to get it over with quicker, and it's not a car loan it's a LOC.
