In almost every forum I've been a part of, there's sort of a collective moan when someone new hits the land there. I'll admit...I am usually one of the moaners so I understand. I guess it's like a bunch of old men who meet at the same coffee shop every morning. New comers only screw up the vibe.

A little of my story and I will fade into the darks corners here and start reading. Had a Polaris Slingshot which I sold today. Have a 2015 Can-Am Spyder. Always wanted a Z-Car but I'm not rich so I really need to spend 8k or less. May not be enough to even consider one at that price which, from what I've seen on Craigslist, means any where from a 2003 to 2008. I read a little about the problem year models. Could be B.S. but have read 06's have an oil use problems and so on.

So, I will try to not irritate anyone here. Might be looking for a while. Any quick rules of thumb would be appreciated...peace.

the HR (07-08) motor are a little stronger, but have a poor slave cylinder design.... easily fixed with after market one, and to most they are more aesthetically pleasing

Travlee...thanks. Every new members first post is always the same. I guess we are expecting a "this just in" moment. I read some 48 total posts last night. Will get back at it later today. Plan to read them all. Thanks again.

06's are nice, the oil consumption is a hit or miss... some have it and some don't from what I've read. The HR model is the best model to buy... after owning my car for 2 months, I received a recall letter from Nissan regarding to the possible failure of the slave cylinder. Wasn't happy with the recall at all considering my car was new at the time but took it to Nissan, they fixed it and I've had ZERO problems so far. I'm still rolling on my stock clutch btw @ 100k+ miles.

GL with your search.

Welcome.
Good luck with finding a z.
I wouldn't stress too much over the year of the z, try to find a 1-owner, stock, unmolested z, I'm willing to bet you'd enjoy an '03 as much as an '08.

They are all good... Things to keep in mind are different models have different features. A base model is great and is great for modifying. No traction control to worry about tire size. No tire pressure sensor to worry about the stupid light... It doesn't have the limited slip but aftermarket ones are available and better...

I guess my point is learn what each model has and comes with and buy one based on your plans...

Good luck.

Re. the '06 oil consumption problems, that applied only to the M/T models. The M/T mpdels had was is referred to as the Rev Up motor.
The '06s with A/T had the "regular" engine with no consumption problems.
Good luck!
