oh and the most you should ever spend on a car is half of your yearly income, which puts you in a 4800$ car

I've seen the good ones around 15-17g's. I am talking perfect condition maintained under nissan warranty, etc. You might look at the non-turbo Z's. Your gonna have to pay $$$ for the good ones including non-turbo.

Most aftermarket warranty co will not warrant turbo vehicles.

Even if it's been taken excellent care of, those turbos are starting to get pretty old. When they go, it's going to cost you more than you can imagine to replace them.....Additionally, insurance on a TurboZ is going to be hefty despite the age of the vehicle. There are plenty of NA cars out there that will give you the zip you're looking for.

You're forgetting the $$ you need to pay for all that coca cola you're addicted to. You need a car! Sooo go find yourself about a 1999 or 2000 used Firebird, Mustang, Acura, (you fill in the blank) and be happy. I strongly urge you to get a life before you get a "Z". Five years from now, if you develop some financial discipline and economic wherewithal you can then buy a used "Z" for pennies on the dollar and still have all the fun. At your age its good to "want" if gives you something to work towards. Delay the "Z" but go buy a used car if you need wheels.

This topic seems to come up every month or so. A teenage kid comes here saying "I LOVE THE Z, I GOTTA HAVE IT, I JUST GOT A JOB, I *WILL* BUY ONE IN THE NEXT MONTH etc. etc..."

Same story every time.

First of all, listen to the people who are telling you to hold off. $800 will barely get you a LEASE on a new Z, and you've forgotten to figure in your state and federal income taxes, which will be anywhere between 20 and 30 percent. The people telling you to wait are either speaking from experience, or they've given you some very good, logical reasons why you shouldn't take the plunge into debt at your age.

Second, look at the people who are telling you to "throw caution to the wind, go for it, buy it now!" They're working on pure emotion, and while you may feel the rush of driving a nice new sportcar at first, just wait until you calculate your monthly expenses for car payments, insurance, gas, repairs, incidentals, and other daily expenses and try to figure out where that high went. These people are saying "well, at least you have a cool car, who cares about being a drain on your parents or society?" Great attitude to have, isn't it? None of them have given a good reason why you should get the car, except to just get it.

Third, what if you lose your job, or you are unable to work for any reason? How are you going to make all of your payments then?

You're young, you can afford to wait. There's nothing wrong with that. If you need a car for transportation, then buy one that's cheap and reliable. And start saving some money because you never know when you're going to need it for something essential.

Honestly does anyone even think these kids are gonna be able to
get this car?

Very few actually make it to purchase. Most are just dreaming Big Time.

These posts are too frequent here. I gave up on trying to be these kids Dear Abby and sometimes like to tell them what they want to hear. They get so excited

Regardless of what anyone here says the majority of these kids are not getting this car.

For the very few that do, Youy live and learn.

Not knocking any of the teens here you have Z's I know many
are affording it. One way or the other. It's just these nutty kids
who have no credit, no down Pymt, and Zero Common sense that
I am talking about.

If the above was referring to my post, Diablo, don't take offense. I kinda knew you were being sarcastic.

Hey guys whats up,
My dad told me i shouldnt be wasting my time ( looking at cars ) until i get a job. Well i got a job yesterday guys! graphic designing at 10 dollars an hour for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I want to buy a 350Z. I make about 800 a month.

I talked to jason at performancenissanparts and he referred me to KEN. Ken called me up last night and told me that he can get me the base model Z at 28700 out the door. I really like this deal alot. But i want to know what i should do before getting the car.

Some people tell me that i couldnt afford it. I also gota pay for insurance.

Well this is what i got planned out.

Insurance for a Z is 1590 every 6 Months, or 261 a Month
If i get student discount its 1198 every 6 months or 198 every month. I am going to try to get the student discount and save money. but say i do pay 261 a month, the 350z at a 4 year loan i will be paying 408 a month, with a 6 year loan at 365 a month, that leaves me with 170 a month for maintanance and stuff.

SO

365 6 Year Loan
261 Insurance
TOTAL 626

174 LEFT.

What do you guys think of this? should i work for a couple of months until summer? so i know i got back up money? or should i get the Z asap? i want to do whats easiest for me so i wont have any problems.

PLEASE GIVE SUGGESTIONS,

Thanks Alot Guys
Abe
I think your enthusiasm is great, but you've left a huge part out of the equasion......................GAS.......I'm not sure houw you drive, but here in San Diego, I'm spending 30-35 for a tank of gas. Right now since the car is new I've filled up twice this week, I'm sure once I loosen up the lead foot and realize I don't have to drive to Canada for a gallon of milk I'll be fine. Just keep that in mind. You also want to make sure you have funds for other things such as past time hobbies....ie girls/guys (open minded being in CALI)

just something to chew on. Good luck with your decision.

Wait a minute.

$408 x 48 months (4 years) = $19584
$365 x 72 months (6 years) = $26280

Both of those totals are LESS than your original quote of $28700.

Assuming you got a deal on a Base Z for $26000 (excluding tax/title/license), without any down payment your monthly payment would be $541.67/month for a 4 year, and $361.11/month for a 6 year loan. And that's with ZERO INTEREST, which you are not going to get.

Bottom line: you can't afford this car.

Here's my complete breakdown of the kid's situation. Keep in mind I'm trying to be generous with the figures.

He makes $800 per month, before taxes.

Assuming 20% state and federal income taxes, his take home pay is $600 per month.

Insurance is $198 per month (using his student discount). That leaves $402.

MSRP for a Base Z with destination charge and no other options is $26910. Assume he manages to get $1000 off MSRP, to $25910. In CA, the price after 8.25% sales tax is $28047 (which is close to the drive-off price he got quoted).

I'm assuming he has no $ for a down payment. Given that, his interest rate for an auto loan will be higher. I picked 9%, which may still be too low.

48 month loan = $698/month
60 month loan = $582/month
72 month loan = $506/month

So even with a 6 year loan, you've overbudget. Just to break even, the kid would have to finance the car over 6 years at 1.5%, which would make his payment $402/month. No way in hell that's going to happen.

Now where's his money for gas? Tires? Maintenance?

Again I say: you can't afford it.

thats a nice car, but is it really what you want?
If I couldn't have a 350Z, I'd definately get the 240sx.
Affordable, plethora of parts available, and parts are relatively cheap even compared to your 300zx.

With all that stuff you mentioned plus labor, it'd probably cost atleast $1,000.

I dont know exact prices for those parts, but a rack and pinion is atleast a few hundred. Drive shaft? Probably a couple hundred more there. Clutch? 300 for clutch atleast. Then just add a couple hundred for labor on top of that. The rest of the stuff isn't too expensive probably a couple hundred for all of that.

So if you have the option, I'd sell that sucker. Get a 240sx =)
Get one cheap and then swap the SR20DET =)

3k for 240sx. 3k for swap including labor. and probably another 1-2k to fix the odds and ends.
