Exhaust ticket!
first of all, i live in cali and i knew that its really strict here but i do have aftermarket exhaust anyways.
i was just crusing in pasadena area, cops pulled me over saying my exhaust is too loud and asked if i had anything in my hood. i had fujita dual intakes. he didnt write me a ticket for intakes, but he wrote me a ticket for my exhaust. i have invidia n1 exhaust with test pipes. i know its loud haha.
this is the code that he gave me . 27150. (a)
my question is... whats the best way to solove this ticket?
how much is it to fix it and go and pay the fine?
how much is it to keep wut i have and pay the fine?
thanks in advance for your help.

Find out the definition of the law that you broke according to the ticket. Lots of times (from my experience), its something to the effect of "Unsafe equipment or not properly installed", which is bull since most of us go to a shop to have the installation done. I have had 2 tickets dismissed because the police officer didnt choose the correct citation for the situation. You just pay a $25.00 processing fee. Not sure how that will play out on California though, but GL.

In OC the deputies have to go through numerous steps to determine the correct db level that includes recording the exhaust from a certain distance. If this cop/deputiy did not do that, then go to court with your current smog cert. plus any paperwork on your exhaust (what kind is it anyway). As long as you did not modify your exhaust by cutting holes or anything or it just sounds like a crap swap meet exhaust you should be fine. I work for the OCSD and they rarely get anybody for this anymore because it is hard to prove.

grounds to believe that the exhaust system was in good working order
and had reasonable grounds to believe that the vehicle was not
operated in violation of Section 27150 or 27151.

^ They do...but usually with modified, custom, and chopper bikes. It's easy to tell because they run a straight pipe with no muffler. Easy ticket.

luckily he didn't tow your car for having no cats and give you a fat fine...
you're better off bolting the exhaust back to stock, get it signed off and pay the ~$10 fix it ticket... then put everything back...

hey guys i found out everything today.
i definitely gained good amount of hp off the test pipes but i had to take it off cuz i can't stand cops following me around.
i called the court and asked my friends who got exhaust / mod tickets, and if i run stock it will be $25 plus additional inspection fees.
i decided to just pay $180 not to run stock cuz my exhaust sound wont be that loud without test pipes.
thanks for your input!

+1 I got pulled over for loud exhaust on my gt mustang once and I got a modified intake ticket $400 which sucked ***...the CHP let me off easy though I was running without cats which if I remeber correctly the fine can be $1500 per cat that you remove...my mustang had 4!!!! lol
heres what i did and ticket got dismissed all the time..a little pricey but a lot cheaper than paying the ticket.
here it is
when you get your "loud exhaust" ticket, get a $50 exhaust from like ebay or something and use its silencer, call the state referee and get an appointment for a decibel test. the hard part is knowing your actual decibel.
once you pass the test, the referee will put a sticker behind your ticket. which pretty much says that your exhaust is legal. this is a permanent fix for your car and any other exhaust u install. take your ticket and tell the court clerk you want to see the judge. present the ticket to the judge and tell him/her that you got your cars exhaust tested and its in legal limits.
the best thing about this is that when you get pulled over for loud exhaust, ask y you were pulled over and if its for loud exhaust just bust the ticket with the sticker and show it to the po po. and they cant cite u for nothing since they pulled u for the exhaust.
good luck
