I noticed that one of the pre production Z's showed a fair amount of wear on the driver seat door side bolster. Looked like all of the getting in and out of the car was fraying the upholstery. The Nissan driver said this problem would be fixed on the production cars.

I guess not since my driver side bolster is
also starting to fray, and after less than 2000 miles!.
The dealer said they would replace the cover,
but that it would take a while for them to get
the part. maybe at 4000 miles when the second
cover wears out I'll convince them to put leather
in for free.

The side bolster wearing out is a common problem with 1991 - 1999 Toyota MR2's. With leather or cloth. I have a 1993 Toyota MR2 with leather that started to wear out A 60k miles. Now there is a large hole there at 160K miles. I got quoted to get it fixed for about $250. I can get a OEM leather seat cover for $270.
It has to do with how low the car is and how close you keep the seat from the steering wheel.
