Default Help with rim cleaning asap!

Ive had my RBC Volk gt-c rims for a week now and man brake dust is a killer on our cars. Anyways I went to wash the car today and use that Eagle one wheel cleaner which usually removes most brake dust. So I hose it down and now there are grimey streaks on my rims that refuse to come off. I tried forever but they jsut stick there!!! What the hell do I do?? I waxed the rims before I put them on as well with Meguiars. This really sucks... Please help Id like to clean my 3g+ rims..

Umm, maybe try some grease cutting Dawn dish soap. That may clean them.

Thanks I'll try that....Does that have any harmful agents for the rim though?

It won't hurt the rim. All it will do it strip off the wax you applied and remove grease and oils. Try not to make a habit of using it though. It will remove your wax EVERY time.

I have a new Z and i noticed the brake dust is mostly on the front rims..if its 4 wheel disc, why just the front? Is there any product that prevents the dust from sticking to the wheels?

Not really, the best thing you could do is to simply wax your wheels. Doing this every month or two should allow the brake dust to come right off everytime you wash your wheels.

Most cars are like that. More dust on the front than the back. Must be something about the way brake pressure is distributed.

Eagle One A2z Wheel and tire cleaner is very good.

Also the best you can do is to change your brake pads to low dusting pads, like the Hawk HPS.

The Hawk pads will cut down about 95% of the dust.

What I used to do with my last car, my Mustang, was I hand cleaned my wheels with a microfiber cloth and just glass cleaner (amonia free -- dont' use windex, use something that says safe for tinted windows, etc.). It takes more effort... but the result is better in the end...

yes, the wax you use on your car is fine for the wheels.

cleaning them sucks, especially brake dust

the reason why more dust builds up on the front is most of the braking force is at the front wheels (hence why the front brakes are bigger on most cars). just think about a bike, when you slam on only the front brakes, what happens? it is exactly the same as with a car. that is why more brake dust builds up on the front, and the front pads and rotors will usually wear a little bit faster as well.

After you wax your rims & later when they do get dirty. Put on a pair of cheap rubber gloves with a dry towel & wipe off the brake dust & etc. before you wash the Z. I have yet to apply water to my rims and they still look brand new! Sounds crazy but it works for me! lol
