I have been trying to get some bad cigarette smoke out on an used '03 Z I just bought. Are the Z floormats machine washable? I've tried shampoo but it still stinks.

Another question is our cars don't have in-cabin microfilters which most cars have to filter incoming air through the vents. So what can I do to get rid of the bad smell from the A/C vents?

That's why I don't buy used cars that have been smoked in.

I’m a smoker, but don't smoke in the Z.

1. Forget covering the odor with some sort of “smell good” spray.
2. Add a couple ounces of Lysol to a bucket of water. Wipe down the interior: everything.

 

Toss then in the tub with some Woolite. Rinse. Hang to dry. Comb with a hair brush.

 

I already got rid of most of the smell, just the floor mats and the vents. Yeah I think I will go with your suggestion using the tub. The vents are little bit tough cuz we don't have in-cabin microfilters. Damn I thought all new cars now should have those. I got the car like 2-3 thousand below blue book so I think it's worth it, the smell is like 80% gone now.

 

Not sure where to find it but they make a AC system cleaner that basically foams out the entire ducting system on the AC. I think that would solve your problem but I am not sure where to find it.

 

You could probably get some of that A/C disinfectent. Turn the A/C on with full re-circulation and spray it in the air return. Get's rid of that old gym sock smell that seems to crop up from time to time.

 

Thanks guys. I think I found it at the topoftheline.com, they have this odor bomb to eliminate odor by spraying to the intake vent on the exterior of the car and turn on the recirculation mode. But I'm not sure where the intake vent is so I need to look up the manual.

 

Yeah, that sounds like the stuff.

 

take out the headliner and scrub it down, that'll help out immensely. after all, which direction does smoke go? up.

Yes I have already shampooed everything carpet, headliner, and other stuff. Actually that's no cigarette smell now until I turn on the A/C so after the odor bomb it should be no more bad smell. I know the G35 comes with in-cabin microfilters but not Z, if you look it up the Z manual it says "Replace microfilter (except 350Z)" and I confirmed this with several dealerships.

 

A ion generator air cleaner might work too.

 

The only thing that will work to get the smell out is moth *****. Dump a box under the seats. It will smell like granny's house for a month but the smell will completely dissapate over time and the smoke smell will be gone.

 

start smoking and you won't smell it anymore.

 

i have used coffee grinds in my dad's car because he was a smoker...the only thing is that the car will smell like coffee for a while...which for me was a lot better than the smoke smell. good luck to ya!

I've used it for the car, but mostly to get that lingering 'puke' smell out of my planes...

 

thanx forall the info, i just spilled a large chai tea on my interior. cleaned (or so i thought) but now it smells pretty bad! aggh.. .

Not quite, but I haven't tried anything yet except cleaning the whole interior and carpet of the car and spayed some odor remover. It's 90% gone but once in a while when I turn on the heater the nasty smell comes back, I think it's in the A/C system.
