Default Effectiveness of cut pad and Portal Cable?

Has anyone tried a cutting pad & compound with your portal cable to remove swirls/scratches? From my knowledge, an orbital polisher is more effective in removing swirls but would like to avoid the extra cost. Your feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Yes I use the Zaino Z-PC and an orange pad! Got rid of most of the swirls!

What speed are you dialed in at when you're on the orange pad and how aggressive was the compound you used?

Watch your terminologies guys! LaPuLaPu asked about cutting pads and compound, not a SMR like Z-PC. A cutting pad and true compound will created swirls, not remove them. You would use a compound on a car with lots of scratches, etched water spots and other paint imperfections. Then you would followup with a SMR to remove the swirls introduced by the compound.

Thanks DavesZ.... What I intend to do is paint my front half of my car. Since this will be the first car i've ever painted, I'm sure there will be plenty of orange-peel to sand away and buff out. I would like to purchase the Porter Cable 7424 instead of a professional Orbital Polisher but uncertain of the capability of the PC 7424 with aftermarket cutting pads. Is it possible to use the PC instead of an orbital polishing type?

I don't know if a ROB like the Porter-Cable is strong enough to use for paint finishing. Remember that a ROB is made to be gentle so us non-professionals can polish a car without harming the paint job. A circular buffer is harsh compared to the ROB. Maybe an experienced painter can chime in here with a professional opinion.

lapulapu,

the PC is an orbital polisher. are you talking about the PC vs a circular sander/polisher like the dewalt?
