Ive heard of this method from some guy on a TV show (not a commercial) that owned a detailing shop. Apparently after a few applications of oil all you have to do is buff the tire a little and the shine will come right back.

LMAO! some of the replies on this thread are priceless....
I would be very concerned with the oil 'spitting' off the tire and onto your paint. Most every modern oil contains additives... and.. some of those addititves may not be the best thing for your paint

One of the most experienced custom wheel/tire shops around here tells every customer: "Soap and water only on the rims, and only ArmourAll on the tire sidewalls." They sell to high-end clients all over the country, and to local low-lifes like me....we all get the same instructions. The ArmourAll works great, doesn't turn brown like many tireblack products and the wax protects the rubber from sunlight. I like it because unless you buff it out it doesn't look too shiney, like some of the cheezy tireblack products look.
As far as putting it on the treads....are there really any posters here who would do such a thing?

Wash with soap & water and dry. Then use 303. It leaves a nice matte finish and also protects sidewalls against UV rays, preventing dryout and cracking. It also dosen't look or feel greasy like Armourall.
