I don't remember. It's sitting at home and I was going to get to it this weekend. I can let you know then, but maybe I'll just go paint my car silver and never worry again! ahhhhhh

I've had some excellent results with Meguirar's #83 followed by #80 with a green and white lake county pad respectively... finish is not exactly perfect but 80% of the swirls are now gone... there's a great article on autopia about how learning to only take off as much clearcoat as you need to be able to live with your paint... I'm just as much of a perfectionist as you guys (it's hard not to be with the Z) but you can only get so far in life being completely **** about things. 
I've only done top surfaces so far (hood, roof, rear deck) I'm gonna tackle the doors and such in the next week but I'm a little wary about it... anyone have any tips on using the PC on side surfaces? Because I would imagine you can't really use the weight of the machine to your advantage at that point...

Right. Is it harder though? I mean I've never tried to use the PC up against something. Is it difficult to keep the machine level on the surface of the car when you don't have gravity's help?
It seems like it would be easier to screw up this way.

i didnt have any probs with swirl, there's no swirl on my car. it just that i used a very soft sponge to wash my car and i used the leather fabric to absorb the water. no swirl there. its all great! maybe you should do that?

Unless you've got a SB don't worry about swirls.

I found an excellect picture collection showing how to use compounds to remove swirls.

It looks like I wasn't letting the polishing compound break down before removing it. I have about 95% perfection on the rear quarter panel I've been testing my PC now ... only about 13,000 more hours of polishing and the whole car will be done. I'm using 3M swirl remover and a yellow pad.
