Default Zaino-Newbie

I've searched everywhere and I thought it used ot be a stickie but can someone direct me to what steps I should use in applying Zaino to a new car. I know I should use Dan first but then what? Z2 w/zfx, Z6?

Help a brother out.

STEP 1: WASH WITH DAWN

Do a wash with Dawn. This will strip any existing wax of the paint. I'd be extra cautions with this step because Dawn tends to be very harsh on the black plastics (trim, mirror base, wipers, etc) and can make them appear faded. So keep the soap away from the trim if you can, and rinse soon after you wash. Then Dry the car.

STEP 2: Z - 6

Give the car a quick coat of Z-6 spray detail. The only time I've found Zaino difficult to remove is the first coat on totally virgin paint. A quick Z-6ing will make removal of that first coat a little easier. (JUST MY OPINION)

STEP 3: MIX AND APPLY THE FIRST COAT

Slightly dampen your Zaino applicator with water. Mix together your Z-2 and several drops of Z-FX and shake for 1 minute (you have the small mixing viles right?). Then being applying your first coat of Z-2 working from the top of the car to the hood to the sides, and finally to the rear. Put the Zaino on as THIN as possible.

STEP 4: REMOVE THE FIRST COAT

Give the wax about an hour to dry (depending on conditions, maybe more maybe less) and then begin removal of the wax in the order it was applied (roof, hood, sides, rear).

I'd recommend following up your first coat with another misting of Z-6.

STEP 5: ADDITIONAL COATS

At this point add as many additional coats as you have time to add. If you car has any swirl marks than alternate coats of Z-5 with your Z-2. Otherwise just stick with Z-2. You should notice it is easier to apply and remove the additional coats. Remember, apply your coats as THIN as possible.

If you've run out of time, then a few days later, rewash the car with Z-7 carwash, and begin applying additional coats ala STEP 5.

OTHER THOUGHTS:

After the first couple coats, life gets a lot easier. Addional coats go on quicker and easier, and the shine gets deeper and better.

Check out Z-8 Grand Finale spray. It's great for when you don't have time to add a coat of Z-2 after a wash. Just wash and Z-8, and it's almost as good as a coat of Z-2...

Good Luck!

Zaino is awesome to work with.

While Z-1 and Z-3 will get the job done, you would have done better off getting the Z-2 and ZFX. Z-3 is for non-clearcoated cars wehreas the Z has clearcoat. ZFX speeds up the curing of the other Z-* products and is the newer, preferred way over Z-1.

That ZFX stuff must be made of gold. $20 for about 1/2 ounce?

It's either

a) Add 4 DROPS ZFX to 1 ounce of Z-2 polish, then directly apply Z-2

OR

b) Coat the entire car with Z-1 before applying Z-2.

It knocks 50% off the time required to zaino the car, the question is: is it worth it to you?

FYI, you supposedly NEED either Z-1 or ZFX or else the polymer won't cross-link to the clearcoat. (Or won't work as well)

Naw, it's made of un-obtainium.
One little bottle of ZFX will get you through a couple bottles of Z-2 or Z-5. It's worth it for the curing speed and ability to do multiple coats in a day.

From looking at the Zaino site and reading through this and other threads, it seems that Zaino is only a polish. So my questions are:
1. Am I correct? Are Zaino products purely polish? It sounds like they aren't given that you need to let them bond to the car, but all of the literature calls them a polish.
2. Are their any issues with taking off too much Clear Coat by using these products consistently?
3. If they are a polish and not a wax, should you use a wax in addition to these products?

Sorry if I'm a little ignorant about the product. But it seems a lot of people swear by it so I am curious.

I'm not sure why zaino decided to call it polish because it is not polish. It is more of a synthetic car wax. You wont be taking any clear coat off using zaino because it contains no abrasives. There is no need to wax over zaino.

I didn't put that in there because he specified it was a "NEW" car. While I know claying would help even a new car, I thought he should keep it simple while first getting started.

I don't think claying is a good idea when you have a new car, and your a newbie...just my opinion!

why is it not a good idea? Its easy for anyone to do and even if the car is new there is going to be contaminents on the paint. I clayed my car when it was a week old and i was amazed at all the stuff the clay took off.

Agreed, it's expensive. But, it's actually a KIT which includes mixing bottles...still pricey tho for sure...but it makes the process go a bit faster and easier.

After researching and buying a bunch of different wax's for my detailing business last night, I still think Zaino is priced fairly considering how well it performs.
