I've noticed that even though I wash/wax my car often, the paint on the top part of the mirrors is faded when compared to the rest of the car. Of course, this probably has to do to the fact that the mirror piece is plastic, but still, it looks like crap. I live in an apartment complex, so I don't have a garage to keep the car in.
Do any of you other redline owners have this problem with the paint on the top side of the mirror fading?
I think i'm gonna end up repainting it and I might as well paint the black part too...

yeah mine is fading just that you mentioned it... (i never pay attention to my mirrors lol)
imo forget the money spent repainting it, just get GT style mirrors instead with that money...

Sorry for your troubles.. my redline mirrors are fine for now.. but my car is in a garage 90% of it's life
I do notice that Nissan laid the paint pretty thin on the plastic parts like the F/R bumpers and side skirts..

Mine had been parked outside for about 2 years. I wax it every time I wash it, but I just noticed 2 months ago that a paint cleaner actually rubbed red onto the towel I was using. On the 91 DSM that I had, it did that because the clear was gone. I think this is happening to the mirrors as well. Fortunately, I just put 22 coats of Zaino on it, so it should hold up now.
Something is wrong with the mirrors on Redline cars! Before mine was totalled, I had just taken it in because when I waxed the car, the paint came off! I was told that was normal, BS. In fact, check out my post a few months ago regarding this exact issue:

Just a general comment about paint (any color) and the 350Z: the car is made of different materials (aluminum, plastic) and paint will adhere to the surfaces differently. If you study the front bumper and hood for example, they do not look exactly the same. It cannot be helped.
So when you talk about fading, parts of the car will fade a different rates. Because of the pigments used to make red, red is adversely affected by ultra violet (sunlight) radiation. Its just typical for red.

Yes, they may fade differently, if you don't use a UV blocking wax like Zaino (as I used regligously enough to go through 2 bottles in 2 years). That should prevent the vast majority if not all the fading associated with UV exposure. Additionally, the paint should not be coming off any portion of the car, especially one that is only a couple of years old and garage kept. Mine saw rain only a handful of times (3) and never a flake of snow or a bit of salt. My Jeep on the other hand hasn't seen a coat of was in at least 5 years, lives in my driveway, never gets washed and has been driven through all kinds of garbage (snow, salt, rocks, mud, etc.) and the paint still is glossy and not coming off the car. The mirrors and bumper are still the same color as the body as is the body cladding.
I think they have a serious issue with at least a portion of their painting process.

when I got mine, it had been sitting in the sun for a while and the mirrors had started to fade. I could tell they were plastic, but haven't been able to determine if they were painted or a well color matched plastic. I'm still not sure, tbh, but I'll take you guys word that their painted.
Either way, the tops were starting to oxidize, and I couldn't stand it. So I got a bottle of ScratchX and spent about 20minutes polishing up either side, then waxed them. They came out quite nice. Though lots of red coloring on the cloth, which makes since because ScratchX removes paint. I've done it twice now, and so far haven't worn through the paint. I'm sure at some point they'll need repainting, but hopefuly not before the rest of the car.

Just a thought. I had yellow 2000 S15 Spec R before my 350. Anyway, under warranty I ended up having the wing mirrors repainted after only 2 and a half years because they had faded so badly and absolutely nothing else had faded. Even with top quality wax and being under cover.
Ok, this is where it gets interesting, 2 friends own panel/paint shops and said that the wing mirrors had only very minimal clear, hence little protection for the actual paint. I wonder if this is the case with your redlines? This is also given probably slightly better paint as technology has come a fair way in the last couple of years. So the question being given plastic mirrors and metal panels, are the undersides of your wing mirrors as shiny as the doors?? IE, as much clear coat??
