I eventually had to replace the window.
Oh my god, did you try fine steel wool first? I tried rainX and had to steel wool the glass to get it smooth again after the first year. Otherwise, the wiper would catch and skip it's way across the surface and not allow the blade to turn over. I use crystal guard now. It does not change with the heat of summer. It's glass fiber's harden on the surface and don't change with the hot summer heat.

If I was to use rainX again. I would steel wool the winshield each spring to get that stuff off and apply a new coat come fall. I think that would work best.

Heat is your enemy here .....

What happens is the rainX gets on your wiper blades after a season and seems to yuck them up. So, you need to clean the blades or get new ones after the rainy season and take off the coating that has distorted them with the summertime sun and the coating that is left on the blade/windshield for six plus months. I like a perfectly clear swipe each time in both directions so it upsets me if it doesn't clear properly or squeak doing it. Some cars / blade types don't seem to have this issue. However, I have never been so lucky.

The way I fixed it was to put new blades on and steel wool the windshield after reasearching a fix for it on another car forum. The rainx really screwed up things for me after the first year of use.

Now, I use another product that doesn't distort in the heat. Crystal Guard QG.
It's used for paint protection, however, works great for this as well.

I use it on all of my vehicles and haven't had a problem with this since.

i've used vanilla moose from Clearkote and water just beads up and flies off the windows. I rarely have to use the wipers now.
