Default Why not wax your window?

I was wondering.... why not wax your front windshield? I used my spray on wax and it made it smooth and repels water better now

Any reasons not to do so?

Btw im sorry realized this may be the wrong forum

I guess that is the same principle behind RainX

But I like my windshield squeaky clean, not greasy

It will work fine for a little while, but if you go through rain often (not SoCal), you will find out that if you do not clean the old wax off from time to time, you will end up streaking your windshield from the buildup. RainX ruined a windshield for me, causing what I can only describe as a broken ice flow pattern on the glass at night in the rain. It made it really difficult to see. I eventually had to replace the window.

Never heard that either. Are you sure it's RainX that caused the problem? Was your windshield clean before you put RainX on? I use that product for over 10 years now with no problem. Just annoy that I have to reapply it every 3 or 4 weeks.

regular wax when wet will tend to become hazy....

rain-x is wax that is designed not to become hazy ....

by the way, that spray wax stuff is useful only for touch up/detailing between waxes... if you want real shine, rub it in...

Mmmh... Posted at 9:21PM. Night time...

I'm not sure what exact product you used, but I know that Pledge used on a windscreen will render it totally opaque when the sun hits it at an angle. Watch out for a white out!

(Silly things you discover in college...)

Why not wax the windows? Because they make rain-x.

i was jsut wondering since it says to keep away from plastics and glass... i accidentally sprayed around the glass so i wiped/buffed it out and looked fine.. so i did the whole window as a test... so far no problems... it was really sunny today and didnt have any problems seeing

and if this stuff works just as well as rainX why pay more for another product? =P

I bought PIAA wipers and they come with a alcohol/silicone wipe that keeps my windshield clean for a long time. When it rains water just flys off even before the wipers hit it. So far it's lasted 2 years.

I wax the front windshield when I wax the car. Also the side mirrors. Helps prevent fogging.

I think rain-x is cheaper than wax. Plus, I only use it once my windows start to atract water.

ive applied rainX once, when i got my car. i wish i didnt cuz now my car always repels water, and soap can't even clean it anymore...rainX is TOO good. Also, if you dont use it right, itll take like 1 hour to rainX the whole car. My friend got owned cuz he sprayed it on and let it dry....it took him 3 hours to get it buffy clean again...lol

Along with polishing the car, I put Zaino on all the windows. Water just flies off now, and the wipers, when needed, glide effortlessly. According to the Zaino website, it is "optically perfect." As a result, I see no distortion whatsoever. Bird poop and dirt clean off very easily. And, it contains UV-40 sunscreen, for whatever that's worth.
