detail session ... clay -> Z-PC -> KSG -> S100 (lots of pics)
yo guys,
I picked up an '04 G35 last week... black/black of course
The car came with alot of swirls and some holograms from bad buffing. Needless to say I was really looking forward to detailing it ... spent all of Sunday doing so.
Just wanted to post a pic-by-pic journal of what I did and it's results.
At first, I was thinking of naturally going from Zaino PC to Z2 ... but I always felt that KSG looked better on black. Looking at the instructions on both products, the zaino PC leaves no fillers or oils so I proceeded to follow it up with Klasse SG. Then topped that coat with S100 (same as P21S).
Pre-Clayed - tells you what I had to start off with
I used Clay Magic to clay it around ... man the car was pretty dirty.
Clay
Clay piece after just 2 panels (hood and a door)
Hood after being clayed - I noticed some swirls disappear ... just made sure to clay in 1 direction swipes.
Results after using ZPC + orange pad
finally, coat of SG + S100 - hand applied
It's always fun to experiment with products ... i'm glad I went this route (ZPC -> SG) ... turned out great. I'd really recommend ZPC because it did an AWESOME job getting rid of most, if not all, the swirls and holograms I had on the paint.
From here on, it's just layering S100 until the rain season comes and goes.

Looks GREAT. Im going to wash my car tomarrow after not having washed it for 2 months about. Zaino is awsome, it still beads. However, last time i washed it, i tried to take it off for the fall season and put a fresh layer on, and it wouldnt come off lol. I have 12 layers on :-)
I claybared it twice also. it'll shine like a monster even when dirty!

I just wrote this to a local member who asked me for some advice ... this is prolly intended for total noobs, but might as well share to those who are curious:

As far as products go, I highly suggest you get the Zaino set and possibly S100. For Zaino, just get Z-PC and Z2.
You will use ZPC with a yellow or orange pad depending on the severity of the swirls and scratches . From most to least abrasive by pad color: yellow > orange > white. After ZPC, use Z2 which will be your polish/wax. You can put multiple coats to add more glossiness. For a final touch, IF YOU WANT, you can top it with S100 which is a pure carnuba wax.
PorterCable Buffer:

coastal tool gives you the counterweight and hook/loop pad that you'll need for buffing pads
Lakecountry pads:

Zaino ZPC/Z2:

S100 (labeled for use on motorcycles but that's ok):
Go to your local harley davidson store and buy it for $15.
I have had great personal experience with all the above vendors. good luck!

so long as u don't drop ur clay bar or moist PC pad face down on the groundand still use it on the car, u will be fine.
seriously, it's pretty safe. If you can do an oil change, u can definitely do this hahah.
There are plenty of great products and articles online to get u started and going thru. Trust me, i was a total noob 3 years ago to this stuff.

Nadir,
Great job on your detailing. I have a PPW and over the years, it has incurred some noticeable swirls.
In my inventory I have the GC wash, Clay bar, and Meg#16 wax. Looking into a PC system, but I'm not sure where and what to buy.
Would this be the proper procedure to go about it?

- Wash car with Meg. GC wash
- Clay bar
- Use PC + orange cutting pad as an applicator for Optimum polish
- Buff off with microfiber
- Use PC + gray finishing pad as an applicator for PB EX-P sealant
- Buff off with microfiber
- Use PC to apply Meg. #16
