For the lube you should use a quick detailer type product.
You can make one from your car wash solution, however you'll get 1/4 the life out of your clay bar. That may not be a problem for you as you probably don't clay a ton of cars like me.
If you do use soap and water use your car wash solution as it is most likely pH balanced. Depending on the car wash solution you should only need to put 8-10 drops of it into a 12oz. spray bottle.
Who's clay bar do you have?

Eagle One Wet Wipe & Shine.
If you're using one of the polymer paint protectants (Blackfire, Zaino) you can use their specific quick detailer spray to help with the claying of the car.
Or just get a kit that comes with the spray (e.g. Mother's clay bar kit)

I have never seen any bulk clay made for auto finishes, I would throw that away and get some Clay Magic, Zaino, or Mothers, all of which are quality clays.
Some people have tried to save a few pennies and use some type of caulk clay or other types of clay not made for paint and messed up their paint jobs.

My family owns some auto dealerships, we carry some pretty nice car care products as well (I don't work there though). That is where I got them. It is made for automobiles, I just don't know what brand it was because they were given to me without the traditional packaging.
Thanx
