Question Zaino + Claybaring : MY FIRST TIME. Please Help.

I just bought my deatilers kit from Zaino.

I have been reading previous posts and hear that claybaring my Z will make the shine come out much much more (makes sense)

I have also heard that I shouldn't claybar if I don't know what i'm doing, becuase I could ruin the paint.

It is a 2004 SS and I really don't want to ruin my paint, haha.

I'm curious if anyone would suggest for me NOT to claybar. . . or any suggestions as to how to claybar correctly so I don't mess anything up.

Thanks so much!

-Chris

Make sure you lube it BIGTIME the claybar should GLIDE over the lubed surface. If you feel anything like dry clay rubbing on a surface lube more. It shoudlnt drag on the paint AT ALL.

Also, make sure it is above 60 degrees when claying.

Thank you so much for the input! I'm assuimg one of the sprays in the Zaino Detailers Kit is what I use to lube the area.

And how do you rub it? in a circular motion. . . back and fourth. . . how do you know when that area that is being rubbed is good to move on?

:-) Can you tell it's my first time, haha.

-Chris

PS: Hey Chris with the Black Z! What do you have for your front markers. . . are they just clear, or clear with LEDs? I like the look

STOCK! haha the flash makes them look like they light up. Anyway, the lube is just some Zaino Carwash mixed with water in a HIGHLY CONCETRATED solution. There are directions that come with the kit too. But I claybar side to side not circular.
You will love your results! https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....688#post475688 <there's mine!

Very nice results. That's crazy that your sidemarkers are stock. They look white with the camera. Youd' think they'd light up orange with the flash.

Looks good :-)

Did you follow the instructions that came with Zaino to make your car look the way it does?

Hey! I just noticed your tail lights look clear too. . . is that the camera flash that's doin that? You do have red tail lights and orange side markers right? haha

Go www.Zaino.com and look at their information within "tips and tricks". Should be some information on claying. You will be mixing the Z7 w/water for your lube. Use a spray bottle have have it close when you are claying. The site and the instruction that came with the "Kit" should have the ratio.

LOL, that is a filtered image grayscaled and filtered khaki color. Here is the original. Yes, I followed the zaino instructions.

:-) Ya got me there on the Greyscale, haha!

I'm so excited to get my Zaino Detailers kit. . It's supposed to be here tommorow. I have a SS Z and I can't wait !

I'll follow all of the directions that comes with Zaino. It supposed to be 65 degrees tommorow, so that'll be perfect for everything !

Another tip, 6-8 drops of ZFX per 2 ounces (one bottle in the zfx kit) of polish. When using ZFX let dry MAX of 30 minutes. NOT IN THE SUN! Anyway, just be careful. Anytime your rubbing something in or out of your paint just be careful no debris is in the cloth your rubbing with.

This is all confusing to me about mixing. You lost me on your last post.

I will probably have to just go step by step in which Zaino instructs me to do. I'm already so lost on how people give suggestions as to what to mix and such. *sigh*

The bottles you get with the "ZFX" are you mixing bottles. The one with the blue lid is the vile of "ZFX". Your mixing bottle are 2 ounce bottles. Put something less than 1 ounce in the bottle and 3-4 drops. Don't squeeze the vile. Hold verticle and let the drops fall.

As far as time. Has the Z2 or Z5 with or without "ZFX" dried? With low humidity and high temps (not in sun) with "ZFX" could dry in less than 10 minutes. Without "ZFX", it might take 10 - 12 hours. I get a much better shine when I leave it on overnight. Wash the car late afternoon. Follow that up with Z6. Put some Z2 or Z5 with or without "ZFX" in the mixing bottle, apply, let in remain on your "Z" overnight and buff the next morning. Follow it up with Z6 and you are on your way.

Do NOT fill up the 2 oz. ZFX applicator bottle. On;y mix up what you have time to use. Apply it VERY sparingly. With practice you'll be able to do 2-3 coats from just 1/2 ounce.

I usually use 1 ounce for the car and if I use ZFX I use 2-4 drops depending on the outside temp and humidity. I like to do one layer with the ZFX and I leave it on about 50-60 minutes but as stated above, not in the sun. It will dry VERY fast if it is and it is harder to buff off. The second layer, I apply without ZFX and let it sit overnight in my garage and it comes off incredibly easy in the morning.

I do a Z-6 misting before my first layer (after drying the car) and between each layer. This seems to give me the best results.

It is important to use a Microfiber wash mit, drying cloths, and buffing towels otherwise you'll just scratch and swirl your paint.

I have clayed in 40 degrees and have had no problems. I have done both side to side and circular motions and have seen no difference.

Good luck.

correct on not filling it up ..but its nearly impossible to do 2-3 coats using 1/2 ounce

do not claybar unless you need to ...i went to a zaino rep and he ran his fingers over the spots that i thought i needed to claybar...he said that i didnt need it..and that the imperfections that i saw were under the clearcoat..not the best news..but at least i didnt claybar for no reason

I am in the same boat. Just got mycar yesterday (Daytona Blue Track) and I have never used Zaino and claybar. My problem is also that it is in the 50's here near Boston. Is it still going to be ok to use clay? IF not I may not get to use it till Spring. Any fast responses appreciated. We only have so much daylight left

Ooops just re-read Dr. Bonz post. I guess 50 degrees is ok for clay... ;-)

I've done it in as low as 40 degrees without any ill effects (other than really cold fingers).

Damn bonz... you must have super "hot" strong fingers. I tried once in 40 degree weather and was not able to mold/shape the clay at all. It was basically like taking a soap bar across the paint.
