I never understood the hype, and I DON'T understand how it works, BUT it DOES!!!!!
slide your hand on the car before and after, also look at reflections before and after, it is CRAZY the difference.
I did my wifes Jetta today, used the Maguires quick detailer as lube. The car is in GREAT condition, But when I would try and polish the surface, it took a lot of time, since you buff out all the crap in the paint and it seems like it takes forever to buff the polish off AFTER it was dry. I put a layer on the car after the CLAY and seriously, the polish almost didn't wanna stick to the surface it was so smooth, then when you buff it off, after it is dry, it ttakes like 1 clean swipe.
CLAY BAR is AMAZING, haven't done my Z yet, but will soon.
btw, I only used a very small piece, about the size of 1 1/2-2 pieces of bubble gum
I also got a California Blade, it does cut down drying time

sweet... yeah i'm planning to clay my car also. My Z and Maxima. Stuff is expensive online. about $30 for a 200g claybar and lube. Trying to look for cheaper deals at local stores. How was your experience with the bar? Easy? Hard? How long did it take??
Zaino Z-18 claybar is $16.95 for two pieces (you use the second piece if you drop the first one on the floor). Use Z-7 carwash as a lubricant ($7.95 for the carwash, enough to clay about 2 dozen cars, or wash your car every couple of weeks for a year).
The "secret" to using clay is to get a pasta roller. I use a Mercato Atlas roller, set on the thickest setting. Take your piece of clay and send it through the roller, and you'll have a perfect "pancake" to work with. After you work one section of the car, wipe the lubricant off the clay, fold it in half (dirty side in), then send it through the roller again (fold side first). You'll have another perfect pancake, and any dirt you picked up is imbedded in the middle of the clay. You can repeat this over & over until you finish your car.
The pasta roller will save you LOTS of time (try to make the pancake by hand - it's hard work). They cost under $50, and I loan one to my customers who clay their own cars.
It works best with Zaino clay - claymagic is a bit too sticky, and will clog the roller. Years ago I was given some Meguiars clay. I would NEVER use it - you can feel the abrasives in it.

i dont know what kind i have, it is white, it was given to me.
it is veeeeeeery easy, 10x faster than polishing a car, I did the jetta in about 30 min, taking my time. after the detailer is still left on the car after you clay it, I just wiped it off with my chamoise, then washed it out.

I agree about the benefits of claying.
My wife's Civic is new but neglected. A Zaino bar, lubricated with Z16, really does make the surface slick, much more so than either washing or polishing.
