What do use to clean your car with?
I've been using a regular car sponge I got from Wal-mart but I have been reading on other sites that it's not a good idea to use the sponges..... Do any of you use:
1 - Lambs wool mit
2 - Chennile mit
3 - Chennile sponge
4 - Regular car sponge
5 - other (pls clarify)
6 - I just take my Z to the car wash
Please list brands, prices, and where you bought your _______.
thanks

I use a extremely soft (bathrobe quality) 100% cotton mit (with the edges removed) that was made by a local zaino distributor.
Lamb wool mits that I got in a carwash kit a while ago are used on my rims.

I put other. I use a microfiber wash mit. Its extreamly soft and does a good job of holding dirt away from the surface so it doesn't leave swirls.

I have been using a cotton chenille sponges for six months. This past weekend I ended up with a big scratch on my tail light due to some trapped dirt. After each panel, I rinse out the sponge, but some dirt must have gotten stuck.
I will no longer be using chenille sponges after that incident. I just hope my paint didn't get scratched. I won't know until I go over the car with some detail spray this weekend.

This microfiber stuff is a real treat to use. It will not scratch....
The detailing kits a more than reasonable in cost, and
are produced in various weaves for specific use.
There are Mits, Waffel print large towels, for drying. special
fine weave for glass finishing. Also pads for applying wax.
as well as buffing size 16"x16". When I first started to use
these, It was the middle of summer, no runs, no drips, no
streaks on the glass, even at 115 in the shade. But do your
own research, check them out. They use these things for polishing
coated telescope lenses, "not the mirrors".

I searched for hours for the best pricing, this is what I found.
But always looking for better!

I use microfiber on my Porsche, F40 and now the Z. You can pick these up at any auto parts place. I use a large tubular brush for the wheels- gets through the holes between the arms and onto the inner rim area with no problems. Soap is kind of random event- never saw any differences- just do not let it dry on the paint. I rinse the microfiber stuff often, dry with chamois or soft cotton, not terry cloth (too scratchy- leaves swirls.)
I never ever wax since my paint-guy introduced me to glaze. Just wipe on with a really soft cloth, rub a bit, and wipe off- voila! After a few uses, the paint appears to be a mile deep.
Wipe out the corners under the hood near the hinges- collects dirt.

Chenille sucks!!! I switched to the microfiber wash mit Bonz suggested. One wash with it so far and it was nice! Didn't need to put too much effort into getting dirt off. I also feel a lot more confident about freeing trapped dirt with the mit than between all the threads of the chenille sponge. I now use the chenille sponge for the wheel areas and side sills, since those often have the most dirt and grime and don't want to risk heavy dirt with the wash mit.
I'm in the "Other" catagory. Have an extremely soft brush that I ordered some six (6) years ago from a magazine. The brush is made in Germany. Gets into every crack. I would like to order another, but have not received the "Auto Sport ?" magazine in better than a year. Local parts dealers have something similar, but..... Maybe someday a magazine will come in!
