Default Steering wheel care?

I did a search but didn't find anything.. I have an 03 Base 350z (no special packages, leather trim sets added) and my steering wheel has started getting rough in patches, like its drying out. I tried using Mguire's leather car care wipes, but it didn't work. I'm not even sure if the steering wheel is leather or not?? (Yeah, I know, noob!). the steering wheel is still rough in patches (kind of feels scaly) and its now sticky! after driving for half an hour or so, I have black junk on my hands!

How do you care for your steering wheel?? Please help!

Thanks!

Something similar happened in one of my SUV's. What I did was I bought a small soft brush at AutoZone and scrubbed off all that "black junk," and washed it off with water. Ever since I clean the steering everytime I clean the interior. I use "3 Amigos" from TurboWax to clean the interior of all my cars. Its good for leather, vinyl, and plastic.

Oil from your hands will eventually dry out the leather. I like saddle soap for cleaning.

Some of the leather wipes have alcohol in them, therefore drying for leather don't generally contain enough conditioning component.

When you next clean and condition your steering wheel, leave if possible for 24 hours to allow to soak into the leather undisturbed.

Yeah, I left it on over night, but maybe a full 24 hours is needed? I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the tips guys!

if you lose the stock Z wheel, won't you lose your cruise control?
