Default dirty plenum, want it clean....

My plenum on the engine has got all these rough blotches all over it and it looks a pretty ugly, and i want them off. I dont know if the car came from a place near the ocean and the salt air did something to it or what, but its not a clean plenum, i would like to get it looking right again.. Any suggestions, i want to get it looking like sort of a glossy finish, or would that require putting a whole new plenum on?

If you want me to post pictures of it when i get home if your a little puzzled on what im talking about, just let me know. Thanks for your help!

Default added some new pics to my plenum which i think is dirty.. may not be. you tell me..

heres what mine looks like... in some areas, you will see the sort of smoothish texture then if you look on down near the strut bar and all around you will see what i'm talking about, the blotchyness... and who knows, i may be wrong... mabey the smooth parts are the bad things, but typically on anything smooth is better.. correct me if i'm wrong.

other than the plenum [which may not be even dirty since this is my first Z and it may be a rookie mistake on thinkin it is dirty when its not (i'm pretty sure it is) ] the engine bay is otherwise clean..

if it is dirty, from what you all see, just let me know the proper cleaning techniques..Thanks a lot

This is more than simple dirt. Looks like corrosion. Cleaning will not help. Consider painting the upper plenum.

Auto parts store carries suitable paint: engine block, callipers, headers. All will work.

+1 As long as you're not spilling crap onto the plenum, it should stay fairly clean. I would take the whole thing off and scrub it down and dry it, then let it sit overnight for good measure before putting it back on. Be sure you cover the lower collector with a clean towel or tee while the car sits.

I just took off my powdercoated Crawford plenum and need to clean it. I'm letting it air dry outside before bringing it in to scrub it down. Reason for removal? I'm getting it polished. Not too keen on the blue powdercoat anymore.
