Default Tar On My Black Z...help!!

There's a ton of development goin on where i live. So unknowingly, i was driving on a VERY freshly paved road. I went to wash my car, and the entire passenger side from wheel to bumper had Tar residue all along the bottom and midway on the door.

How the hell do i get this off without ruining my paint??

Thanks!!!

i found some stuff made by Turtle Wax that works pretty well. I believe its just called bug & tar remover. Use a lot of it and rub gently until it wipes off.

good luck

I originally didnt know that it was tar on my car and tried just using soap and water to take it off and it scratched up the paint pretty good. SO DONT DO THAT!

haha

You can try the bug and tar remover, if not that I would say a mild compound.

i wouldn't clay bar it right off the back. If the tar gets stuck in the clay, it will scratch up the paint. Try to use the tar remover to get most of it off. Usually spray the tar remover on, let it sit for 10-15 secs, spray off with some water, let it sit for another minute or so and spray with more water.

Maybe, you could try using a hair dryer to heat up the tar and use the tar remover. But don't burn your paint. Kind of the same way you remove badges.

NO CLAYBAR! You run the chance of ****ing up the paint...

I found Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover on accident. My brother in law had a bottle laying around and I needed some...
Hands down the best iv ever used for bugs

However, for tar and road paint, I have found that "oops" works amazing. Same goes for Goo B Gone. It wont hurt the paint. Put it on a rag, rub the tar off and then clean the paint....

Mineral Spirits or WD40 will help dissolve it. Once you have the majority of it off, wash the area and look for spots that will not come off. Small spots can be removed with the claybar. Do NOT attack a large area with just a claybar!

I've used pretty much the same thing. I had some stuff from PPG called take off and WOW!! Sprayed it on and you could see the tar start melting away. Then just wipe clean. I recently just heard about the WD40. But they say it works pretty good too. Then just give it a nice coat of wax and should be good as new.

WD40 fixes everything. Everything.

If you look at the MSDS of most of the "tar removal" products you see that the large percentage of the makeup is mineral spirits. IIRC, WD40 is about ¾ths mineral spirits.
