Is crystal guard the same thing as Zaino, or do they do different things?
Totally different products.
You might get a nice shine from Crystal Guard, but I question how well it protects your paint.
I recommend Zaino.

I did my second coat of CG today....easy as pie and it looks killer. all the sea fog salt stains just hosed right off the 2 week old first coat....amazing. People where stopping and looking at the car after i finished.
I have no idea about Zaino, never used it.....but CG is treating me right
took maybe 1 hour to do the car.

The Power of Zaino is unequalled! Use the Power Luke. Use Zaino.
Pics don't lie!
the 'shine' is probably about the same. all I know about Cg is it is 1000000000 times easier than using wax and it looks way better.
I was considering Zaino, but their website is ike...Amway... or something. Cg is like 2 bottles. a 'wash' and 'the stuff'. also theres no let it sit overnight then re do it deal.
car looks great, the local 'hard water' and sea salt.big city filth combo is noticeable
gone.
I wish i had known about this stuff a long time ago. I'm gonna start using it on my bike too.
like I said...I've NO IDEAS about Zaino, so Zainoheads please don't get upset...the CG stuff works better than anything I have ever had on a car or a bike before, so for me, it is good.

No. It wasn't out yet when they did this report.
I am not dissing CG. I used it on my Stealth and it did a pretty nice job. It shined nicely but I don't think it will last or protect as long as the Zaino does.
For anyone new who hasn't seen my Zaino and CG experiment threads, look here:

I have used Zaino since '98 and it is very, very good. But you *need* to be totally committed to properly applying and layering it to get the best results. If you have some swirls, you need to apply Zaino Z5 in multiple layers, then Z2 for best shine. That means layer, wait, buff, layer, wait, buff, layer, wait, buff. After your done, you will achieve a very deep, liquid shine.
After developing tennis elbow (Zaino elbow?) I started using a PorterCable polisher w/ Zaino. Great results.
I then read about CG on this forum. I researched it; and it seems alot of people liked it. So I tried it. I am sold.
From day 1, I got a better shine on my car than I ever did with multiple layers of Zaino. After a few more layers of CG, the shine got better. More importantly, my time and effort to achieve and maintain the shine was reduced by 80%.
I also tried it on my wife's IS300. I applied 1 coat CG just before Easter. It has not been washed (or CGed) until last week when dealer washed it. The shine is still unbelievable.
After foul weather, I would have felt compelled to apply more Zaino to bring up the shine some; w/ CG all I have to do is wash and the shine is as good as day 1.
I do find it odd that while I got great results w/ CG; others have not. I have also noticed that most people w/ silver or gray cars prefer Zaino.
Either way you go, you will get good results.

Bill: I can't argue with your results. Your G looks fantastic! As we both theorized before, it may be because the CG I used was on my 11 year old Stealth that was not clayed before application of the CG and because I already had 6-7 layers of Zaino on it before I put on the CG.
I am simply addicted to Zaino and I now think it is easy to use (after all this experience, I am a pro now
).
Both products make your car look VERY nice.

I don't have any experience with Zaino.
I wanted to try CG on my new finish and here are some results with the CG from a little road trip this weekend to the New River Gorge. It was a beautiful day. We received several positive comments regarding the car.

OK, here's the answer based on my reading several threads:
CG and Zaino try to get the same result: a hard finish that protects the paint and gives an amazing shine.
They go about doing it in totally different ways, but to me the end result is the same.
Zaino looks like it requires more work, but has a ton of support. CG looks easier but I hear about it from fewer people.
So... I bought some CG and some Zaino. I plan to use the Zaino cleaning and claybar stuff, but use the CG for the actual shine and protection. I'll see how it goes...

Your car is stunning. I plan to try the new Zaino formulas and see what I get.
BTW: whatcha got for Zaino elbow? I've been rubbin since '98.
At last count, my CLK had 30+ layers on a dark blue paint, but nowhere as deep as your Z.
