Thumbs up Brake Dust Solution!

Wax your rims with Meguiars Gold Class Car Wax. It works like a charm. I'm sure any wax will work just as good.

It worked for me. It forms the same protective coat like on paint. Of course you have to rewax them like you do a car. I have just over 2000 miles/4 months on my car the brake dust still hasn't re-appeared. All I can say is if you got some wax, try it. You spend more time cleaning them on one occasion than you will waxing them.

I Zaino my rims every time I do my car. I have multiple layers of Z-2 on them. It doesn't prevent brake dust but it does make it A LOT easier to clean them after it is on.

I think a lot has to do with how much and how hard you drive your car. A lot of mileage and hard braking definitely increases the amount of brake dust created. I only drive my Z on the weekend (if it's not raining).

ditto bonz, I used zaino on both stock set and the rays, both get brake dust eventually. comes off just fine, but still comes on.

either I need to start using meguires on the rims, or stop using the brakes so much.

I'll tell you something even better, PAM. That's right, the no-stick stuff put in pans before cooking. Think about it!

I heard that Crystal Guard works great at preventing brake dust. I haven't tried it yet myself, but I will next week I already wash my car every week so the brake does doesn't get *too* bad, but it would be nice to not have black wheels the day before I wash.

Ditto the Doc, but I did the same with Crystal Guard, makes it much easier to clean the wheels.

Yeah, I used the CG on my Stealth when I trialed it for Tako and the car still GOT the dust, it was easier to clean off though.

Auto Zone is the place to get RainX wheel protectant. All you do is spray it on your wheels and let it dry.

I've used the Rain-x stuff for the wheels and it certainly reduces the amount of dust that accumulates. However, I found it a bit harder to wipe off the dust that does accumulate then it was when my wheels were waxed with Gold Class.

I used CrystalGuard Quick on the whole car yesterday, including the wheels. I'll let everyone know how that does.

Nothing is going to prevent the brake dust... all we can do is make it easier to remove. The brake dust is so fine it will attach to anything.

Waxing the wheels is definatly the way to go.. after waxing washing the rims is more 'hitting all the surfaces' then it is 'scrubbing all the surfaces'.

I waxed.. then didn't.. because first time was a pain... and after a few months, I found it much much harder to clean my rims. After waxing again, its effortless to clean them.

You'll also find the rims get 'stained' easier if not waxed.. which takes more cleaner and effort to remove. When waxed, you can clean the rims with just water and brush typically.

And I thought that I was the only one who drove their Z on the weekends and when it's not raining. My wife tells me that I'm nuts. Whatever.

The car we had previous to the Z was a 98 Passat 1.8T. The Passat's and the Audi A4/6/8's all used the same OEM brake pads which were notorious for shedding break dust. (Take a look at the front tires of any of those cars and you should see what I mean).

When it came time to change the pads on the car, we replaced the pads with Mintex "Red Box" (street) brake pads. The difference was night and day on the amount of dust they shed. Under same driving conditions I could probably go about a week before the stock pads made the rim filthy, where as with the Mintex pads, I could go about a month.
