Exclamation How to clean before applying vinyl?

I am about to put on a black vinyl roof overlay tomorrow and I am not sure how to prepare the roof surface.

Besides washing it and all, is there anything else I should do? Like perhaps a minor hand wax? (Meguiars 3-step?)

Thanks.

Clay bar and wash it.

Rub it down with Wax&Grease remover or rubbing alcohol.

Do this indoors in a non-dusty area and where there's no chance of a wind draft or breeze.

Do not try to attempt it outside.

So don't wax it?
Just clean thoroughly and carefully?

I've never claybarred my Z, so claybar first? Then wash or vice versa?

The claybar was only to get conatminants off the paint that can give it a rough surface.

If you can run your hand all over your roof without feeling any rough stuff, don't worry about it.

you don't want to have wax under the overlay, so do as others have suggested to remove existing wax and contaminants.

I just got a 12sq/ft black automotive 3M vinyl from my local sign shop.

It was about $40, better than getting a shop to do it.

Going to do it tomorrow.
Glue? lol
It's a vinyl with mild adhesion on the back, like any auto vinyl you see out there.

Did not have time to do it today. Looks like I will be doing it Friday or Thursday night.

The vinyl has some mild adhesion which comes off easy (when I decide to take the overlay off) with some rubbing alcohol.

I had a chance to actually look at my roof today, and it seems like the weather stripping will be sort of a problem. I'll have to cut more than the roof, trim away a little bit, then tuck the ends under the stripping.
