It isn't aluminum, it is painted plastic. It does scratch easily. I've scratched mine myself.

Depends on how bad. You might bufff one out, but if it is deep enough, you'd have to have the cover painted.

If its plasic.. you should try Novus polish. #2 is the one I use for light scratches and deep cleaning on my pinball plastics.. and #1 is the finisher.. puts the luster on it.

Novus works good on guage scratches.. not sure what the surface of the strut bar would take (never really touched it in my Z).. but its worth a spot test.

How much is a new plastic cover? It would seem difficult to remove any scratches.

yeah Id replace it if it was that bad. anything more than a minor scratch youd have to fill and paint.

I just ordered a shop manual and I hope that there are instructions for removing the aluminum colored trim. I would like to paint it darker so that I don't see the reflection off the back window whenever I look in the rear view mirror. I'm tired of the 'hologram' look.

I think they are close to $80 if I'm not mistaken, but I haven't checked in a long time and could be wrong.
