Unhappy Deep scratches in my 3 month old car

I keep my 3 month old "Z" in the garage in hopes that absolutely nothing could ever happen to it, in regards to damage that is. However, last night when I was closing the garage, the vibration of the garage door opener somehow dislodged the metal plate that covers the "balast" on the 8 foot flourescent light fixture that hangs directly over my car and fell onto the roof of my brand new "Z". Needless to say, I almost began to cry, cuz when I examined the damage, I noticed that there were three deep scratches on the roof of my car. Each scatch is approximately 2-3 inches in length and is scratched right down to the metal. I am pissed!!!!!!!!! I took it to the dealership to see if they will be able to repair the damage. The dealership told me that since the color of my car is "silver" that they should be able to match it very well. I don't think they will have to strip and repaint the entire roof, but was wondering what I am looking at in regards to cost, that is if they can just make the repair to the area damaged. If anyone has ever had to do this, please let me know. The dealership said that they will call me tomorrow when the paint shop is able to look at the damage and decide how to do the repair, if at all. Any and all help is very much appreciated.

I apologize. I think that I was supposed to post this thread in the "Repairing" section of this. My bad. But still, if anyone can help me with this question, please let me know. Thanx!

I don't have a whole lot of information to share, but I would think about comparing prices between the dealer and a reputable body shop. Good body shops are experts at matching paint and repairing dings, big to little.

Thank man. I did check out a reputable body shop and compared it to the quote that I got at the dealership. The body shop was actually a little bit higher in price. According to the dealership, they explained to me that if they just tried to repair the gouges themselves, I would not be happy with it, so instead, they would have to completely sand the roof and then repaint it completely. They quoted me at $360.00. I guess that isn't too bad. I appreciate your input though.

I hope it works out well for you. I have had a couple of eye watering experiences like that already, including a pine cone falling out of a tree and hitting my windshield (thank god!) at 50 mph and a chunk of tire thrown up by the car in front of me that hit my clear bra and did no damage, but made a hell of a noise. It seems like the whole world is out to get us, and it doesn't help that the paint is about as robust as a wet piece of tissue paper!

Will your homeowners insurance cover it since it happened in your garage? A long shot, but homeowners usually has a lower deductible.

Had two deep scratches in my rear deck lid (from a metal arm hanging from my garage door) down to the metal.

Had it repaired for $400 Cdn, and it looks flawless.

Yeah, so you know exactly what I am talking about. I am looking forward to getting my car back and can't wait. I think the best choice was for me to have them completely strip the paint down and completely re-paint the whole roof. What an expensive lesson learned though.
