Default how many coats of zaino in a day

ok, i'm taking friday off work to get an oil change and to detail the exterior of the z. i plan on using a clay bar to remove the mothers wax. Followed by meguirs step 1 to try and remove a few of those black marks on the mirrors and then zaino with zfx. Is it ok to put more than one coat of zaino on in a day with z6 in between each coat?

The ZFX instructions say something about how many coats of Z5/Z2 you can put on in a day. I seem to remember it's something like 3. The drill goes wash, clay bar, wash, dry, Z6, Z5 (if you have swirl marks to remove, Z2 if you don't) wait 1/2 hour before buffing off Z5 and then you can do a Z6 followed by Z5 or Z2.

Pooh is correct but you must use the ZFX in order to remove it so fast. The most you are supposed to do in a day is three layers.

careful with the claybar. Lubricate very well. Also, lightly using it may be sufficient. But if you have raildust and tar in your cleat coat, you may need to rub a little harder

Dawn will do a better job of removing your old wax/polish. The Clay bar is for removing "stuff" stuck to your paint. The goal is to get as flat a surface as possible. This will give the maximum shine. Flat surfaces reflect light better than bumpy surfaces.
Wash the car with Dawn, then clay. Pure Tremble is on the mark with his claying advice.
You can pop over to my site and down load some short but pretty detailed instructions for Claying.

Something else I have noticed with ZFX, it looks good when you are done, and looks even better the next day. The total curing process seems to take some time to bring out the "BIG" shine.

"Ditto" on all comments! Do you have a garage to park it in? If so, after all that washing, claying, washing and applying Z5/Z2 with ZFX and Z6 between coats, try applying Z2 and letting it inside garage overnight to dry. Next day, remove, Z6 and apply more Zaino with ZFX.

do these brand new cars require that much attention? sounds like you guys get a LOT of Zaino...it could become so abundant on the forums it could become our currency. 1 coat of Zaino would equal roughly a nickel, depending on the strength of the yen at the time I'm all for keeping a car clean but a weekly wash or 2 and the occasional wax is all you need. You should only be fully detailing a car a few times a year (as in removing wax with cleaners and clay bars, polishing and re-applying) depending on where you live. it all sounds a bit goofy to me...listing polish in your signature and all *odd*

no, i don't have a garage. i live in an apartment and only have a car port. There is no visible residue on the surface of the car. I keep it as clean as possible. So, I plan on just a light claying.

jrotaryb,

You are correct that we Zaino converts are not rational on the subject. It isn't about what the car needs to look good. It is about the fun we have making the car look AWESOME!!

I believe that if you are going to do 3 coats in one day, you then have to wait 24 hours before applying coat 4.

I'll be getting the Zaino kit soon since I've been impressed with the quality of the product and, well, I need new stuff hehe but the once a year detailing and weekend wash/wax (well, polish now hehe) (in nice weather) is what I'll keep up with. *My FC only sees 7K a year, the paint is in great shape but I think claying the car will do wonders (never been done, though most paint is fairly new).* I was thinking of just going out and getting the kinds of consumer products I've always gotten but Zaino's kit is comprehensive and economical...I'll let you know how it comes out.

Even a brand new car right off the truck should be clayed. It picks up contaminants from the factory, weather, rail dust, etc.
