Dr Bonz Zaino Experiment II
With eight coats, myself, I see that I am still a novice!
What one learns, spending almost seven hours working on the car, is how much plastic there is. I buffed the bumper panels and side skirts so much that the static electricity would electrocute a cat!
Still, the lines of the car are wonderful, especially the curves around the fenders and the way the cladding tucks deep under the car. I find, though, that the rear window casket tends to retain water and have gotten into the habit of drying the car with the hatch open.

Ahhhhh Grasshopper...you have found the secret to 'no drip drying'
Not only do I raise the hatch, but I tuck two small towels in the upper corners to catch the run off...seems to do the trick

Window GASKET. Man, I've got to re-read these posts before the editing period expires!
A good idea about the towels. Do you find that there also is excessive leakage below the rearview mirrors?

Just so!
The sills, too, tend to collect water and I open the doors, as well.
I know that Sal Zaino recommends large cotton bath towels but I find that so-called flour sack cotton towels are much better at absorbing water. Four or so are just perfect and the fact that several are used minimizes the risk of scratches, which I always thought was a weakness of terry cloth towels.

MSO: I have never used an orbital buffer when using Zaino. I have used one in past lives on my Stealth with other waxes/polishes. Zaino is so easy to remove I just never felt the need to use one. You, of course would NOT use one to apply the Zaino since it is applied in a straight line and NEVER in circles!
I had forgot to order my claybar when I ordered everything else. I called Zaino and I was told that Mother's claybar would work just as well. What I am wondering is it came with a product that would be similar to the Z6, basically a quick detail spray, that I would like to use on the Zaino. I want to use it and not waste it but not at the expense of the Zaino I put on. Any ideas if I could use this type of product. Thanks.

Mothers is a carnauba wax and Zaino is a synthetic polymer sealant. I probably wouldn't use the two products together. Maybe one of our Zaino distributors can shed some light on this but I personally would not mix the two.
Clay isn't related to the wax. I've used Meguiar's clay in the past with no problems. I've heard of others having problems with Meguiar's streaking, though. Mothers is supposed to be good, too. Clay Magic is another one you can find in stores that is supposed to be good.
You can either use the lubricants that come with them, or use the Zaino wash as described in the Zaino instructions.

Doc:
The Zaino looks stunning! I took delivery of my Z on 3/1/2003. Weather has been really crappy and I've kept the car in the garage. I haven't read everything on the Zaino that you've posted yet but I will. Do you also have either the 3M kit or the Clear Bra installed? Opinions on one versus the other?
I wish that the Ray wheels and Brembos were an option on the Touring edition because I like them better than those that came on my brickyard Touring.
Where can I get the miniature brickyard Z car or is it a one-of?
Thanks,
Tom

I don't have the clearbra. I don't like the line across the hood. I may someday get it just on my fron bumper though.
In my above post concerning mixing Mothers and Zaino, I wasn't referring to the clay. I know you can use ANY claybar. He asked if he could use the Mothers detailing spray with the Zaino he bought. THAT is what I meant when I said that I wouldn't mix the two.

Eleven coats, which probably is enough for now, given that the car is not driven in the rain.
I will say that I can build quite an electrostatic charge on the plastic panels with all that buffing.
Does anyone else, by the way, scratch their knuckles cleaning around the brake calipers?

I have as much blood on my tire towel as I do brake dust!

Doc,
I Zained my Z for the first time last weekend. It looks good, but now it is always covered with yellow pollen. I have used the detail spray a couple times, but the pollen comes back anyway.
Am I doing something wrong? I thought the spray was supposed to reduce dust stickage?
Thanks, Richard

Makes me want to throw more coats on my TL.
