It really doesnt matter in a perfect world, but unforunately, ther'es gonna come the time when you are waxing, and you didn't get every last spec of dirt off, and will case minor swirls as you wax. So in this situation, its better to go with stright up and down strokes, as IF you create any marks, they will be less noticeable, as the sun will have to hit them at the right angle for them to be noticable, where as a buch of little circular swirls are noticalbe frm every angle.
He is correct, it is better to go in a straight stroke. I recommend following the angles of the car as a guide on direction. If you do get or have swirls, it's easier to just reapply wax in those areas and remove it in a back and forth motion rather than trying to rub them out with just a cloth.
When I applied the Zaino to my car I used side to side "lines" on the horizontal surfaces (roof, hood, rear hatch) and up and down lines on the vertical surfaces. I actually tried to use one solid line from one side to the other (i.e. from the splashguard behind the front wheel up over the fender flare over the hood and down the other side. It's kind of hard but I did it where I could.
Sean and Brad, Do you also need to use straight lines to REMOVE the stuff as well or are circles OK for that?

Again, the specific movement really doesnt hav ean affect on applying/removing the product, as long as its done evenly. What you want to worry about is the possability of swirls. So yes, when I remove a product, just use rapid back and forth motions. Remember, some people try to kill the finish when removing, just use enough pressure to get the residue off, no more.
