We noticed at Zaino that if you use Z-6 in between coats of polish it creates a 3D deep look, you not HAVE to use the Z-6 in between coats, it just helps.
You can use Z-6 anytime the car is clean , it can be used on paint, glass, chrome, etc.
Z-6 removes fingerprints, smudges, etc.
A couple of questions I haven't seen yet:
1) So the only time I need to use Z-1 is the first coat after claying?
2) When alternating coats of Z-2 and Z-5, is it better to wipe with a towel after each one, or apply them one on top of the other like you do with Z-1? In other words, is it:
Z-5
Z-2
wipe clean
(repeat...)
~ OR ~
Z-5
wipe clean
Z-2
wipe clean
(repeat...)
Thanks,
Matt

"1) So the only time I need to use Z-1 is the first coat after claying?"
No, Z-1 is the bonding agent and activator for Z-2,3,and 5. Z-1 is used on the very first application of Zaino polish on an particular car and then you use Z-1 again every 6 months for a daily driver and oncer 12 per months for a show car. At the 6 month interval, you apply Z-1 directly over ever how many coats of polish you have on, you never have to remove other coats of Zaino to apply another paint product, every Zaino product is compatiable with the other.
"2) When alternating coats of Z-2 and Z-5, is it better to wipe with a towel after each one, or apply them one on top of the other like you do with Z-1?"
No, you do not apply Z-2 on top of Z-5 nor vice versa. Think of Z-1 as a chemical catalyst. Z-1 must make contain with two things, 1. The paint and 2. the Zaino polish for proper chemical activation.
Do this:
Wash car with Dawn if you have another Brand X on the surface, wash with Z-7 if the car has never been waxed or polished.
Dry the car
Clay Bar (if needed or desired)
Re wash with Z-7 to remove soap residue from claying
Dry car
Apply a extremely thin layer of Z-1 to the entire painted surface all at one time, you should rub the Z-1 into the paint until it is barely visible on the paint.
Apply Z-2 or Z-5 directly on top of the Z-1 in thin even strokes.
Allow to dry
Remove with cotton toweling
Z-6 entire car
You will either be done for the day or want to let that coat cure for 6 to 7 hours if the outside temp is above 60 or 70 degrees, if colder wait 24 hours for the coat to cure so the next coat with "stack" or layer.
If using the ZFX system, do this:
Wash car with Dawn if you have another Brand X on the surface, wash with Z-7 if the car has never been waxed or polished.
Dry the car
Clay Bar (if needed or desired)
Re wash with Z-7 to remove soap residue from claying
Dry car
Mix 4 to 5 drops of ZFX into either 1 ounce of Z-2 or Z-5 and apply an extremely thin layer to the entire painted surface all at one time.
Allow to dry
Remove with cotton toweling
Z-6 entire car
You will either be done for the day or if you want to apply up to 2 more coats of either Z-2 or Z-5 with ZFX activation for coat layering.

Zaino, unlike regular wax, loves heat. Being synthetic, heat has no effect on the product. Regular wax begins to break down on the surface on temps over 150 degrees or so, Zaino is good for 350+. On a sunny 90 degree day, a dark colored paint will reach surface temps around 200 degrees.
Can you tell me where I can purhcase the Zaino product in the
US- I live in Sydney Australia and will be picking up my 350Z
in mid march 2003.
I you have an email address for the zaino product - that w/b
appreciated.
Thanks

Z5 vs. orbital buff
Obviously Z5 is sold because most average joe's shouldn't be buffing out swirls/possibly damaging their car.
But, if given the choice between a professional detailer with a orb. buffer; which would you use to remove MINOR car wash swirls from a new black car?
If you say Zaino, are you truly removing the swirl, or just 'covering it up' - since Zaino claims Z5 'fills-in' a swirl? Assuming that is the case, my question is - don't you just cover it up with Z5, then in six month, remove the Z5 (dawn soap), see the same swirls there, and reapply the Z5? I'm sure it makes money for them, but is it helping us any?
Thanks!

Several things to cover here.
First, we at Zaino always recommend if you have a serious scratching or swirl problem to remove them first using a mild abrasive like 3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009, and then since Z-5 is not an abrasive like the 3M is, the Z-5 fills in very, very fine scratches and swirls. All paint has some degree of scratching and swirling, you jut try to minimize it so as it can not be seen by the naked eye.
Second, you do remove Zaino in six months, don't know where you heard that but you are picking up some erroneous information somewhere. Washing the car with Dawn is only done ONCE and that is before the first application of Zaino. Washing with Dawn purpose is to remove OTHER kinds of waxes and polishes currently present on the paint than Zaino. Zaino can only stick to two things: 1. Bare Paint 2. and Zaino itself. Once the paint is stripped by washing with Dawn, the Dawn is never, ever used on the surface after that.
The only thing you do at a 6 month interval with the Zaino system is to either reapply the Z-1 Polish Lok or ZFX activated polish on top of the coats of Zaino currently present on the surface. If you use Zaino correctly for say 3 or 4 years (assuming that is how long the average person keeps a car) then the paint is never taken down to bare paint, you just add layers of Zaino at application intervals and of course in-between a few coats of Zaino will wear off as you would want any polish or wax to do over time.
Okay, so, since I do not have "serious" scratching, then I guess you are recommending your Z5 product...
Thanks for the clarification about the product re-apply process. My other question - am I supposed to claybar it every time, or just once at the same time I Dawn the car?

Claying is also just maintance, some do it once per year, some once every 6 months. Basically, anytime you feel something rough on the paint you can clay it off. You can clay right on top of the Zaino, one light claying will not harm the Zaino finish.
Kevin: Are you saying that basically NOTHING can remove Zaino? I thought that claying the car would remove it.
If that is the case, Zaino is more powerful than even I imagined

Not quite, many things will remove Zaino, any kind of cleaner wax would more than likely remove Zaino or any other durable polish, a swirl remover abrasive like 3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009 will remove Zaino.
If you have multiple coats of Zaino, you would have to clay the same area over and over to finally remove the Zaino. You have to remember, the clay never touches the paint, the clay glides on a surface of water and soap (the lubricant) like a hockey puck glides on ice.

Is it advisable to start with Z-6 as opposed to Z-5 or Z-2? My car was washed and clayed and I'm ready to polish. I'm just wondering if Z-6 will make it easier to apply the polish?

You can Z-6 if you want to, but Z-6 reacts (goes on and off) much better on an already polished surface.
I would put down the Z-2 or Z-5 on completely bare paint if it where me.
Bonz... you're Yoda quotes just keep cracking me up for some reason.
But, to show everyone there are no "Zaino-mind tricks" going on here, I offer this pic of the roof of my Z. This is with 6 coats of Zaino (Z5, Z2, Z2, Z5, Z2, Z2) with alternating layers of Z6...

Yes, the film will be fine. I was not thinking about that. It will bond to glass also.
