Default Scotch guard/ cloth protection

I haven't seen it mentioned here, so I was wondering if people use scotch guard for protecting the cloth and carpeting inside the car. Is there another, better product? Do people think it's a waste of time. I know some dealers like to tack on lots of money for their scoth guard treatment, but I can pick up a can of it at the local auto parts store for a few bucks.

Most dont use scothguard as it makes the carpeting more flamable. I used 303 Fabric Guard with good results (it will smell a little weird for like a day)
