Default How did that happen?

Hello,

http://media.ebaumsworld.com/insidecarflip.wmv
Could anybody explain what exactly happened? He lost traction (on front wheels?), tried to correct it and then what? Why did the car flip?

he never got any traction in the rear wheels. Since its a drag car, the front wheels are pretty small, they couldn't carry the momentum so it shifted to the upper side of the car causing it to tip.

Thanks, how to prevent it in the first place? Better tires? Would've he be able to correct it by steering smoothly probably?

IMO, it was all the driver's fault. It sounded like he still went WOT when he didn't fully gain traction. Also, he overcompensated when he counter-steered. He should've began steering counter clockwise around the 8 second mark. In situations like these, its split second reactions that make all the difference.
