Default 8/17: Drag Racing results from LACR

(note: LACR is located at 2700' feet above sea level, and the average temp is 90, 85 at 9pm! The speckles you see in the pixes is caused by the sand in the air... it is the upper desert!)

Had a good time overall. OCG35 (Mike) met me at my house and we headed out to the meet up point on Coral Way in Pasadena. Had a couple calls from some My350z’rs and G35r’s on the way advising that folks where coming, but would meet us at the track instead.

Hung out for 10m or so, and then blasted up the Angeles Crest to Palmdale. The roads were pretty clear with few vehicles, although my scanner and V1 popped a few times. Kept it at a reasonable speed, as Mike was following me and I wasn’t sure if he’d ever driven that road before.

We arrived at LACR around 5:15p. Cars we’re already being tech’d and a few imports were already lined up. BUT, for whatever reason, we didn’t get any runs until 7:15pm. There was some technical glitch in the tower or something. Information was not forthcoming.

By 7:15 (91 degrees), I had my first run and they were already on 2nd call for Trophy Run line-up. But since we didn’t have any pre-runs to establish our dial-ins, nobody was lined up. It was gonna be a crazy night! So I made my first pass at about 15.3

I dialed in for 15.2 and took my first elimination with a 15.173. Although I broke out at-.027, the guy in the next lane broke out with a .109 (dial-in 18.19 vs 18.088 ET). So I took it with a lower break out.

Race #1 Stats (7:40p)
vs. Some big ugly hulking Ford Contour or something?

Reaction .160 (at LACR .000 is perfect)
I1 - 60’ 2.406
I2 – 6.537
I3 – 9.872 (73.546MPH)
I4 – 12.674
ET – 15.173 @ 93.399 MPH

Second race, unfortunately was against fellow Transporter and G35driver, OCG35 (Mike) in his 04.5 DG sedan. I moved my dial-in to a 15.17 and he was dialed in at 14.9.

I took the race with a clean 15.210 (.040), while he finished a little too high above DI at 15.082 (.182). It should be noted, however, that Mike took his first race against a ’32 Ford full drag car.

Race #2 Stats (8:07p)
vs. OCG35 (mike’s 04.5 DG sedan

I4 – 12.702
ET – 15.210 @ 93.066 MPH

Third elimination (semi-finals) had me paired up against a BMW (never did see his rear end, so didn’t pay attention to model). He was an MT though…. Kept DI at 15.17 against his 15.40. Ended with my 15.342 (.172) vs. his 16.031 (.631)

SOCALTED
Reaction .204 (at LACR .000 is perfect)
I1 - 60’ 2.466
I2 – 6.628
I3 – 9.994 (72.824 MPH)
I4 – 12.817
ET – 15.342 @ 90.369 MPH

Break Out trophy runs are about consistency, not going faster than your Dial-In (DI). Since the guy I was racing against left the line before me (handicap trees) and I toasted him down the lane, I knew I was ahead. I keep my radio on 91.9 so I can hear the announcer during the race and he confirmed that, knew he was way off his DI, so I shut it down to ensure that I wouldn’t eliminate myself by breaking out. Brains over pride!

The championship run had me going up against a trailer queen nitrous Mach1 Mustang. He wasn’t squeezing last night, but was holding his own. This guy a multi-time class champ at LACR. I kept my DI at 15.17, vs his 12.85. I’ll let you do the following math:

SOCALTED (#111)
Reaction .167 (at LACR .000 is perfect)
I1 - 60’ 2.411
I2 – 6.540
I3 – 9.869 (73.631 MPH)
I4 – 12.666
ET – 15.162 @ 93.415 MPH

YELLOW MACH1 (#173)
Reaction .023 (at LACR .000 is perfect)
I1 - 60’ 1.741
I2 – 5.270
I3 – 8.240 (83.077 MPH)
I4 – 10.726
ET – 15.993 @ 98.177 MPH

I ran a 15.162 on a DI of 15.17 for break out of .008 vs. his 12.993 on a DI of 12.85 (solid .143) So, for those keeping score, I missed first place by going .008/sec too fast!

Anyway, got a nice 2nd place trophy, met a lot of fun folks (Dave and JJ from My350z) and bonded a bit more with OCG35 (mike).

Some more Z’s and G’s there:
BB19 from My350z

Unknown

Davidchoi425 from G35driver (please note that the speckles you see in the pixes are DUST being blown in the desert winds!

See you at Irwindale tonight!

It's def a track that punishes your times!

Looking forward to Banning's Drag City, but that still has some elevation... but at least no sand storms!

Nice results!

15.0 ET (at LACR) x 0.9666 = 14.5 ET at Sea Level

Elevation conversion info here:

LACR actual feet is ~2700 feet, but high temperatures and humidty can make summer runs have an air density equivalent to 8,000 feet.

You should try California Speedway.

Cali is not open often enough, never mid-week. When it is open, it is only mid day and is pretty crowded. (DRAG CITY IS COMING!!)
