Unhappy My second time at Sac raceway.

Well today, I decided to hop over too sac raceway to see what improvement my 2 bolt-ons have done for my car. I recently just installed a JWT Popcharger and a Crawford V4 plenum.

So as I arrive at the track, I line up with this acura RSX-Type S with intake and exhaust, and guess what....he beats me. I was quite upset...here are the results for my car and his car (my car is on the left, his is on the right).

Reaction: .423----------------Reaction: .051
I1: 2.380---------------------I1: 2.340
I2: 6.397---------------------I2: 6.361
I3: 9.653---------------------I3: 9.620
MPH (I3): 74.145-------------MPH (I3): 76.626
I4: 12.467--------------------I4: .000
E.T. 14.832-------------------ET: 14.789
MPH: 95.673------------------MPH: 95.555

As you can see, my 60ft absolutely SUCKS, and my trap speed is just HORRIBLE. Here is some backround of my vehicle and how the weather was. My car is a 2005 daytona blue roadster 5AT. The weather was about 81 degrees, and was fairly Humid.

The best run of my car had to be towards night time, here are the results:

Reaction: .013
I1: 2.189
I2: 6.101
I3: 9.334
MPH (I3): 76.620
I4: .000
E.T.: 14.434
MPH: 99.235

I was also a little bit upset of those times, because I ran those times when I was stock.

I got a total of 6 runs out of the whole night. I'm a little bit confused on why my times suck, is it because I have an automatic convertible? I am seriously thinking about trading my car in for a manual coupe. There was a manual infiniti G35 coupe there with just CAI, and it ran a 14.0. Any input would be nice, I need some help on why my times suck. Thanks in advance.

ALSO! This will make you guys laugh. There was a kid there with an Acura CL, he was parked behind me. He was standing by his car while, checking out mine, and asked what I thought he had under the hood. Well, since his hood was open, the only thing I noticed was that he had a AEM CAI. He then said:

"Actually, No I'm supercharged".

I was kind of stunned by this since it only looked like he had CAI. He then said this:

"Yea its an electric supercharger, instead of getting the regular air into the intake, the electric supercharger rushes more air in, producing better times".

I then asked "Well what do you think you will run?" He then said,

" Well I cracked my intercooler, and I have no helmet, so I' just going to run 14 flat today. But if I had my helmet and intercooler fixed I would run a 12.9"

He also noticed that I was auto and said,

"Oh, why don't you just buy a formula 1 shift kit for your car? I have one"

I asked how much it cost him, he said,

" Well, I bought it off of ebay..."

Whatever that ment

Just thought I would share that with you guys, kinda made me giggle haha. Take it easy.

-Mike

Thats not too bad for the Roadster, esp. at that track.

I’d prefer that you scanned and posted time slips but:

1. Race your car and not someone else. Don't worry about the car next to you. There is no purse to win (I assume). Concentrate on your car and technique.

2. As you mentioned, your primary problem is 60-foot times. If you can get 60-feet to 2.0 seconds, the rest of the race with take care of itself.

3. You are following the suggestions of other automatic drivers about the brake fuse and power braking?

4. Set the shift light at 6,200 rpm. Run. 6,300 rpm. Run. 6,400 rpm. Run. 6,500 rpm. Run. Which gives you the best results?

Practice. When you have collected 100 time slips, come back and post the results.

I haven't tried the break fuse method, even though, I did buy one of those break fuse kits, but I ended up pulling the fuse out from one of the wires, so I gotta get a sodering iron, and soder a new fuse to the wire.

But like, I never new it would be that hard to launch, even in a auto...but hey, practice makes perfect. I think I'm going to go to the test and tune on friday, so I can run A LOT of times. I really don't think my car is the problem, its just me lol.

As for the shift light thing, the auto's don't come with the shift lite :-(.

Edit - Also the weather was about the same as the last time I ran, except it was a little more humid.

ANOTHER EDIT - I Also forgot to mention my tires. Recently, both of my rear tires got messed up. They both got a nail in them in a 2 week span. They didn't have the potenzas since they said they had to special order them which would take 2-4 days, but, they had a set of "kumhos" in stock. So basically, My rear tires are differnt then the fronts. I also heard this creates drag. Please...don't flame me about the tires, I don't have time to keep my car out of service for 2 days since this is my daily driver and I have a busy a** schedule.

LOL. I'm glad that you're not taking this TOO serious. There's an old saying that goes “Fix the driver first. Then the car.”

The start is the key. Somewhere between spinning the tires and bogging is 2.0 seconds. Practice and you'll find it.

An aftermarket shift light kit costs about $50.

Pick up the front tire pressure to 40 psi cold.

Drop the rear tire pressure to 30 psi cold.

Have fun.

Thats good advice about driver, however when I ran at Sac I dropped my street tires to 24psi and pulled a 1.998 60ft. The launch is the whole name of the game. You have to do a good burn out to get traction period. And keep the tire pressure low. I ran my BFG's at 15psi last night. thats how i got my 1.7760ft

1.77 seconds is excellent on DOT tires. My only concern about 15 psi is the possibility of the tires slipping on the wheels.

Hey Sig, I've seen this Cl-S. It's silver, has an AEM sticker (10hp), and blue neon lights underneith. I won't put down the CL-S since I used to have one, but I never saw this guy run better than 15.XXX.
