I ran a 13.85 my first time at the track with my stock Z. I hope to run better (still stock) when the track reopens.

Here are the precise track specs:

Track Elevation
12 feet above sea level

Racing Surface 1/8th mile limestone aggregate concrete launch pad (8")
3250 feet of polymer asphalt (3")

Temperature at time of run was 55 degrees

alberto,
i saw in your sig that youre running 13.1@107 with these mods and this rwhp..
JWT Pop-charger, Crawford Plenum, Test-pipes, Crank Pulley, Injen Exhaust, Technosquare ECU---this set-up = 262 whp 252 ft lbs SAE corrected on a dynojet.

youre on the cusp of 12s NA...are there any Z guys (on here or that you know of) that are running 12s NA?
the reason i ask is i was just comparing my car to some of the times on here (not coming on here to stir up trouble, just to learn about the Z cars), and it seems that theyre not real quick NA, but naturally with a 4 valve head love boost. and the independent rear doesnt exactly help with launching.

anways, i was just wondering cause i went 13.2@103 in my 05 GT (auto) this past weekend with a cold air kit, x-pipe, cat back, gears and a custom diablo tune....60 ft was a 2.002 on the stock (sucky) tires...i figure a drag radial and a stall and thats 12.7s all day....

i was just asking cause i figured that if most of the manual equipped cars are going high 13s stock it wouldnt take that much to get them in the 12s...where do yalls cars hit the wall?

thanks
Ryan

Welcome to the boards. There have been 2 cars running 12.9 @ 105-106. They cut 1.7 and 1.6 60ft's respectively. My problem is my suspension is not set up for drag racing, is very stiff, and I have more negative camber in the rear than a stock Z. So my 13.1 comes with a weaksauce 1.96 60ft. If I was to cut a 1.7 or lower, 12.80's for sure...honestly, most guys on here arent huge into dragging, so I dont think its the Z's hitting the wall at a certain E.T. just not enough drivers pushing the envelope you know....

Today is the day! I'm going to take my dog to the track and see what she will do this time. Today looks like a great day and maybe if I get the test pipes in today I may be able to break into the 14 second club, GOD willing of course. Wish me luck!

Auto's can do alright. The first two runs in my bone stock Z at the time were 14.3 with bad wheelspin and launching from an idle. (226 rwhp/248 rwt stock)

I have JWT and Borla now and can run 13.9's all day long, still with traction problems on street tires. Best was a mid 13.8. with 90 degree temp. I can go 100 miles north and get that down to 13.7 something. The conditions and track make a big difference.

Like alberto said, most 350z's aren't dragsters.. theyre not setup to be drag racers. There's a reason we have independant rear.. Just like the cobra guys change out their rear suspension in the back to a solid axle when they're serious about getting low in the 1/4 times.. we would probably need to do the same thing since that is a huge limitting factor (indi rear) when drag racing from what I understand..

guys,
thanks for the replies...and yeah, from what ive seen on here, i figured there wouldnt be much in terms of drag racing, but with the nice hp the Z's come with stock and a rear drive 6 speed...it just seems like thered be more than a few out there looking to rip up the 1320.
also, i understand the effect the IRS has on the standing launches (as you pointed out with the IRS Cobras), but even those cars have gone 10s with the independent rear (not after breaking a few im sure) so i dont see why a good set up couldnt be made for the Z? But do you Z guys have the option to do a solid axle swap? this of course assuming someone wanted to get the most outta their car in the quarter mile.

anyways, just curious cause i know those cars have a lot of potential..my ex had one (with an auto) and my buddy (liquidcourage1) has one and i know they can move (i test drove a 6 speed), which is why i would think 12s on motor would be rather simple.

I don't think the Cobra suspension is nearly as stiff as the Z. Also, they have some pretty wide rubber on the back stock. Ours is only 8 inches wide or 235. Farther more, the Cobras who dont replace their indi rear with a solid axle have ATLEAST a suspension brace which helps ALOT. I'm not aware of any such products(unfortunately) being available for the Z. If they were I would surely buy it as I am very into drag racing(though new at it) and intend to get my Z down into the 12's NA eventually. PS I'm coming from a Mustang GT so I know Mustangs..

yknow what? i just saw your location....i stay on the west bank! are you in nola now? we should get together and hit up noproblem sometime.

anyways, back to subject...yeah, the cobras have a wider tire, but its only a 245. and yeah, the cobras that are going fast with the IRS are braced, stronger halfshafts, etc. its just boggling my mind that theres not a company or two out there supporting the Z drag racing community.

what year was your stang?

Yeah, I wish to god they had a brace for our cars I'd buy it immediately.

I'm in Metairie, right outside of new orleans.. I work downtown new orleans. I'll probably be back at no problem when it opens back up in January. Definitely wouldn't mind meeting up. I just went out there with a couple friends and met up with some other members of this board a week or two ago.

Went to the track this Friday and what a dissappointment. A whopping 15.078 at 103mph. My first run was the best out of four that i got to do. My tires are bald now and I was unable to get the test pipes installed. So 15.078 with pop charger, very impressive.
I have the kinetix pipes now and it sounds like crap. Maybe I will take to the track and see what can be done with this addition and some new rubber. Any suggestions on some very soft compound tires for the rear?

Sorry, I meant 93mph, not 103.

It would be nice to see the time slips.

With his trap speed I'm guessing traction problems. Probably an awful 60' time.

I have a 2000 Z28 Camaro Automatic and it ran a 13.5@102 bone stock. It now has a MTI clear lid and aftermarket MAF ends so its probaly quicker now 13.2-13.4 maybe

hey defex, i ran 12.7 with a 1.5 but couldnt duplicate it and ran 12.9 twice with 1.7 60fts and i put down 257 to the wheels. Im gonna get my car tuned with a U-tec and see how much that increases my rwhp.
and ill go to the track again this season and see what i can dig up.

Very nice! What modifications do you have? I'm shooting for high 12's NA also.

at that time i had technosquare reflash, JWT clutch/flywheel/PP, JWT intake, SPL intake pipe, Helix test pipes, AAM y-pipe, AAM plenum spacer, and i think thats it.. and slicks..
also make sure you run on fuel light all day cuz when fuel light comes on you actually have close to a 1/4 tank left.
