Default my 1/4 result

I went up to LACR in Palmdale CA.
heard its about 2500 ft above Sea level.. it was around 45-40 degrees cold.. windy dry day. i had total 19 runs that night.

05 350Z Roadster

My mods.
1. Popcharger
2. MD Spacers
3. Nismo Catback
4. Engine Damper
5. 19" Racing hart C4 with 285/35/19 Dunlop sp9000 (dont have stocks)

tho i have been running front wheel drive cars Hondas, acuras all my life this was my frist with the Z. Very different launch controlls.
heres what happend. let me know what you guys think~
my first 2 worst runs. this was really really poor driving for me. i ran faster with civics before.

rt .123
60 2.466
1/4 15.964
mph 92.34

rt .721
60 2.557
1/4 15.809
mph 91.484

by end of the night. my best 2.

rt .0149
60 2.298
1/4 14.935
mph 93.57

rt .09
60 2.304
1/4 14.99
mph 93.56

my best reaction time was .017, 60 was 2.298, ET was 14.935 MPH 93.57

tell me what you guys think.. what should i do improve other then getting slicks or even Stock tires. remember its a Roadster.. it does weigh about 300-400 pounds more then normal coupes and it was 2500ft above sea level
thanks

even if it was a roadster, you should not be running close to 15's. Is yours a M/T or Auto by the way???. You also can't be running w/ heavy wheels and tires. your wheels and tires are heavier and bigger than stock. if u don't plan on goin F/I u really don't need 285's in the rear. Just remember that alot of people are losing simple power just because of their aftermarket wheel and tire setup. Keep the diameter as close to stock as possible, go even a few mm smaller. also the lighter the better. That might help a bit.......

ur 60 time isn't good at all as well so. a 1.7-1.8 is good. You have practice to launch well and shift well. then get lighter wheels and maybe you can shave a few tenth off your time. Good Luck Man!!!

guys, stop flamin him. he's here to ask what he should do. he's not bragging that he ran a 15 sec. 1/4 mile. As a fellow Z owner, why don't you suggest some things instead of bashing on him.

This track is freaking treachorous. I got a 15.3 on my roadster with 19s and PE exhaust. Sheldon got a 14.8 all stock except for aftermarket tires. Also note that Tom and Alpine aren't even fast up there considerening they are TT. I think they are getting mid 13s and barely 12s with slicks.

Also calculate your times with this:
Altitude Correction
LACR is 2,710 ft. above sea level.
To figure the altitude factor the formula is as follows:
ET: multiply your et (at LACR) by .97
MPH: multiply your mph (at LACR) by 1.03
This will give you the ET & MPH at sea level.

I don't know what is happening here. If we dock your ET 3 percent for altitude, the numbers are, well, less than stellar. I will give you 1/10 second for big heavy wheels. Still I am at a loss.

LACR is know for being an EXTREMELY slow track. A "good" time for a stock 6-speed 350Z coupe there is 14.4-14.5.

Even though thats corrected, NA suffers alot in higher altitude. Don't worry. The Z is hard to launch and i feel its not your car since your ET is pretty low too. Its altitude, track conditions and maybe how fast you're shifting.

hey but quick question.. BriGuyMax is doing 1.73 60' on 9psi (430rwhp) with APS Twin Turbocharged
460rwhp, 10psi Tuned by GRD
11.72@120mph 1.73 60' on 9psi (430rwhp)

so being pretty much stock.. with added weight and altitude, heavy rims, and all the factors mentioned above.. 2.23 60' isnt that OK?? or should i be lower?

i am launching @ 3K feathering clutch and controlling throttle to minimize wheel hopping.

Even at altitude Id expect 2.1 or lower 60ft's. Dont compare yourself to one of the best drag racers on this forum yet, gotta work your way up

Dont know how helpful this will be but its worth a shot, you need to work on your shifting, this is a write up I have done that I saved, you may get something out of it.

For you guys wanting shifting tips:

I dont let off the gas at all, but thats just my personal preference. I dont suggest you try messing with powershifting until you can speed shift very quickly. As far as shfiting faster, I always tell everybody this:

Everybody has fast hands, anybody can slam a shifter into the next gear. What you need to work on is timing, and leg speed, which is very important imo. When I shift I never touch the clutch to the floor, I never even go down more than 1/2 way. No need to for a smooth shift, just enough to engage the next gear. When getting on the clutch kick down very fast, and kick up(let if go) even faster! I cannot stress this enough. Most people I see kick the clutch down fast, shift fast and I see their left leg coming off the clutch slow, try to work on this. As far as timing, when I powershift, as Im approaching redline I hold my left foot above the clutch(not on it-again just personal preference) when I want to shift I kick down the clutch and go into the next gear at the same time, its 1 fluid motion of leg and arm movement. Dont shift in steps, like clutch in, next gear, clutch out. Make it 1 1/2 steps, first step being clutch in/move to next gear, and as your hitting the gate of the next gear your leg should be coming off the clutch already-thats your last 1/2 step. Work on this, practice it, and you will get better.

Only powershift if you feel comfortable, you can shift just as fast with a quick lift throttle shift or a partial lift. If your powershifting and your rpm's go up 300+rpm's when you push the clutch in, your doing it way to slow-you need to work on letting the clutch out faster. You shouldnt go up at all in rpms in between shifts-thats where the timing comes in. Keep practicing, start with perfecting the 1-2 shift, then 2-3 and so on. NA you only need to nag out 3 gears down the 1/4, so good luck. Any Q's ask away

got it sounds good to me. when i shift.. i think i shift fast enough.. well not fast as you but enough..my car was tripping on 4 gear as well.

but i will take your advise and try that and let you know the result... i do push the clutch all the way to the floor. cause last time i did what you where doing. i miss shift to 2nd.. i done this couple of times.. so i was afrade of that.. cause that will just make my time more slower.
any suggestions on that??
bye the way thanks for the great tiP!!!!

If you try to not go all the way down on the clutch and miss gears, your timing could be off. You need to get down on the clutch faster. You could be maybe grinding if you pull to soon on th eshifter or just a clean miss where you usually will push the clutch in too soon as you shift to 2nd let out the clutch and vooommm, missed it. Work on your timing, and work on getting off the clutch faster and backon the thottle faster as well. Again I dont recommend powershifting to all-just my preferance. You can run great times lifting....work on it

Thanks for the kung fu leg work tip Alberto. I wish you can come test this track because everyone I know loses .5-.3 seconds off a quarter mile or more compared to other tracks. My old car on an accelerometer had 0-60 at 4.7 seconds. I'm sure it wasn't exactly accurate but close. At LACR it pulled a 14.3. With those mods I had, most people on the east coast were pulling low 13s and 12s with a good launch. Every time someone post their time from that track in particular, the outcome is never good. Even Corvette challenge days I see them pulling ****ty times.
