5AT drag racers
I need some advice on trying to get my car in the 13's. My mods are: jwt pop charger, injen ses exhaust, ur crank pulley, max ground wires, 3.5 rear end, technosquare ecu reflash, nitto drag radials. The track I race at is 350ft above sea level. Temp. was 65 degrees on this last trip. I took out the spare tire, removed the stop lamp fuse, tcs off, 25 psi all tires, 1/4 tank gas, good burnouts, brake launched at 2000rpm's and manual mode shifted at red line.My time slips are posted below. My previous trip to the strip, everything was the same except I had 20psi all tires, and brake launched at 3000rpm's. My best 1/4 mile was only 14.3! As you can see by going with 25psi and brake launch at 2000rpm's I picked up .2 off my time. Next time should I go 30 psi all tires and brake launch at 1000rpm's? Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated!
if you're just looking for 13's right now, and don't want to spend a lot of cash...
Hmm. Looks like you're doing everything right as far as prepping and driving.
Suggestions:
Try launching at 2500. You've got the TS ECU reflash, does that mean that you're shifting at 7200? Try shifting down around 65-6700. and just for ***** and grins, try leaving it in AT for 1st and 2nd, then bumping it into manual for 3rd and up.
Parts:
Look at a new intake plenum and a CAI (I like Injen).
With Injen CAI, Kinteix V4 plenum, Nismo Cat Back, 275's in the rear, (grounding wires and a few other little things that probably didn't contribute) and pretty much everything you listed as far as prep, i THINK i was running 13.6-13.9's. I'm kinda hazy, since that was two years ago, and my time slips are all in my "I-Love-MY-Z" book, in my glove box, in my Z that's at the shop right now. But speaking from memory, I want to say that my 60ft's were .1 to .2 seconds slower (props to your drag radials) but my 330 ft's were .1 to .2 FASTER and my traps were around 100MHP, +/- a MPH or so. Like i said, that's from memory. but if it's true, that tells me you might be shifting a little too late.
Anyway, try all of the above, and if none of it works for you, do what i'm doing and drop in a Vortech SC
CHUCK OUT!

Thanks for the suggestions chuck. I shift at 7200rpm's. I guess I'll keep trying different brake launch rpm's, tire psi and shift points until I find the magic combination. Anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yea, I was planning on going with the sgp valve body upgrade and high stall torque converter. I'm also looking at the motordyne plenum spacer and kinetix hi-flo cats. I was just hoping to at least run a 13.9 with the mods I have so far. Thanks for the suggestion. I like to hear what people have to say.

I honestly don't know what to tell you. 14.3 is about right for a 97/98 mph trap. But I gotta say that trap is pretty low for your mods, if the track is really at 350ft and assuming the trap just doesn't totally suck *****.
If I were you, id shift at 7200rpm's for ONLY the 1-2 shift. After that, shift right at 6600rpm's. Obviously you dont make power past 6200rpm's really so why wind out 2nd and 3rd gear, your traps seem kinda low, but your 60ft is great. Good luck next time, 13's are in your future.

Keep 40 lbs of air in the front tires - more air means less rolling resistance. Not much difference, but a little help. The 60-foot time seems okay but I'd expect better with drag radials. Are you rolling into the throttle or flooring it at launch? If flooring it, try rolling into it to reduce wheelspin. Take 1/2 to one second to reach WOT, that may help. It is tough mentally to not hit WOT immediately, but that is often not the fastest method. Wildly spinning the tires does little to move you forward....

I've been drag racing my z at the track for 2 years now.I ease the gas to the floor on the last yellow and for the most part I never have traction issues regardless of what rpm I launch at. I've only had the dr's for the last 3 trips and whether I launch at 3000 or 2000 the dr's hook everytime. Traction is not an issue with me. I don't know why my 60ft's aren't faster. I just can't figure out when I launch at 3000 I run a 14.3 and when I launched at 2000 I run 14.1's all day long. It's got to be my shift points in manual mode.

Yea the valve body seems to be the way to go. But I think the torque converter is going to benefit me the most. Being able to launch at a higher rpm will help my 60ft's. I think i'm going to go with performance motorsport for the pro torque torque converter($499) can't beat it! I just wish these companies would come down more on the valve bodies! highway robbery!
i was able to pull 14.2 with just an intake on my auto z. mickey thompson tires dropped it to 14.01. if your going to install the tc yourself then 500 is not bad as long as the company is good. i went with edge racing myself. to be honest, you can get into the high 12's for about the same price.
i ran a 12.98 with a 50 shot, ur crank pully, intake, mickey thomspons and torque converter. with the same setup before the tc mod i was getting 13.5. you'd probably need a 75hp shot and a higher rpm launch from your current numbers to get into the 12's.
try putting your fornt tire pressure at 40psi and your rears at around 20.
get those rpms up. the true stall on the z is 1900rpms. you should be able to brake torque up to around 2200 rpms because of slippage. with the tc mod that will get up to around 3200rpms of true stall with minimal slippage. if you do go with the tc mod, make sure to get a tranny cooler.
good luck.

Thanks for the tips. My brain is over flowing with knowledge! LOL. Keep 'em coming!

Then as I started to do little things I started to lose traction pretty badly. all I have is JWT intake, borla exhast, grounding wires and a 1/4 plenum spacer.
I have a touring model with tire, junk etc in the car when I race.
I am currnetly turning 13's mostly with my best in the race below when we both broke out but I won. (13.85.) I won a set of DR's in that race, so this season I expect to get into the 13.7 area. I have sever traction problems if I don't roast my PS tires.
I'm going to try a couple of the suggestions here. I have only trapped 100 once.
I had a competitor say that I was running him down and then all of a sudden I stopped catching him, so I think I was going up to far in 3rd gear. I shift into 4th right before the finish line. Seems like I need to shift sooner.
