Default Best time: 13.77 s @ 100.8 MPH

Just pulled my best 1/4 time last night.

mods: Injen CAI, UR pulleys, gutted OE cats, 3/8" MD spacer, rear 275/40 Toyo RA-1's (these are for autoX/track events, but they work better than the OE bridgestons)

-I did a burnout to heat the tires up and launched around 3.5K with slipping the clutch...I think I could have launched harder though.
-I powershift through all gears (with the OE tires I usually get some tire chirp for the 1st to 2nd shift, but the toyo's just grabbed perfectly)

Does my 1/4 mi MPH seem low? I would think it would be closer to 102 MPH?
(the track is at sea level)

thanks!

Good ET and excellent 60-foot time. Would appreciate a photo of the tire treads.

Very respectable, but work on shifting! With a 2.05 60ft stock I ran 13.77 @ 101.4. You had a better 60ft but lost ground during the 1/4. Also look into running your intake short ram with the plenum spacer.

what else do I need to do w/ shifting? I'm powershifting and not loosing much time...last year I ran against a friend's '03, he had a bad launch but by the end he had caught up and passed me (similar mods to mine) - could me engine just be a little weak? Maybe it's too lean b/c of the intake/test pipes and/or the ECU is pulling timing (I'm in Cali, so I use 91 octane)?

I've attached a pic of toyo RA1's in similar condition to mine (they're about 50% worn, so the tread blocks are only visible on the sides...the middle of the tires just have 4 grooves)

Awesome 60' but your trap does seem low.

I was trapping high 101's last night at a mid 1000' elevation track and 2.3 60's last night. Do you have any dynos?

no dyno's...when I get home I'll have to find my old time slips from last year - I thought I was trapping 102's before...

well you are only picking up 20 in the last 1/8th. take out the injen and burn it seriously... stock air box with KnN or popcharger and you will pick up 21.5 to 22 in the last 1/8th

thanks bert on that tip a while ago. its really true!!!

i was having the same problem that was killing the top end of my car and i know how to shift really good. trust me, ditch the injen and watch your trap go up..

I'll try the Injen as a short ram...this is a great excuse for me to go back to the track. thanks!

Good luck...try that and get back to us, then we'll see if the shifting could improve, seems like your car isnt pulling very hard up top-thats a sign of a CAI + plenum/spacer I had this issue over 1 year ago...

Thanks for the photo. I didn't not realize that autocross tires look similar to cheater slicks. Concerning trap speed, you are picking up 20 mph the last 660 feet. I would like to see 21 or 22 mph. One time slip is difficult to evaluate.

If I start the morning with 3 runs:
13.50
13.55
13.60
...I know that I am driving well, and the car will not do better that 13.50.

On the other hand, if my runs are:
13.50
13.65
13.80
...I know that I am sloppy. The car is OK but I need improvement. This makes it difficult to select a dial-in.

Your times look similiar to mine as most of my traps hover around 100mph although I did manage a 13.4 at 102.9

https://my350z.com/forum/drag/180247-new-best.html

I'm also only pulling 20mph in the last 1/8 when I'd like to see 22mph, hopefully a tune can help out. Getting a UTEC soon.

Hey Peter great time! You have really improved on your times. I was stuck at work all night or I would have been there of course. Hope to make it next Wednesday!

KCIR? I use to live in OP up until March of this year and KCIR is where I raced. My G35 sedan auto with a Z-pipe ran consistent 14.3-14.4@98mph with 2.1 60 foots out there. FYI, if it is KCIR you're talking about, the elevation is 850'.

What are your ETs like? Most 350Zs I've seen out there are driven very poorly (14.3-14.6@97-99mph).

Hey guys, finally got back to the drags, everything was the same but I changed the Injen CAI to a short ram...I picked up close to 3 MPH for my trap speed. The pic I included is 2 runs from May 3 and the older run from April.

for the 103.X MPH trap speed, I had a bad launch...

what do you guys think?...I'll probably keep the Injen as a short ram.

Unreal man, this really does prove that the cai is total crap for the 350Z, good job and nice runs

Whatever the heck you did for the 2.07 second 60-foot time, do it again. Get that first to second gear shift down pat and you are driving a 105.0 mph 350Z. Good job.

How do you know I need to work on my 1st - 2nd shift from my time slips? I power shift all gears, and both of those timeslips I didn't loose traction for the 1st to 2nd shfit (Usualy by 7-8pm, I'll start loosing traction for the 1st to 2nd shift...I think it's because the track is colder and there's less traction)

thanks!
