Default 1st time out in a while...Analyze this! PALEEZ!

So check this out, I go out to get some seat time at Irwindale ((1/8mile)) Practicing (at least I thought I was) my reaction time, and tryin' to get out to the 60' mark faster.. It was around 68 degreesF. As you can see by the timeslips...not a good run-day..Those checkin' this out, any and ALL feed back welcomed...and needed!!!Thanks all, in advance... BTW, I am car "049"/HKS SC/Injen TD/ME Spacer/ KJR pulley/NGK Iridium #6's...ran on 19x10 Super Rozza's 285/40/10's...

it looks like you MPH is high for the times. thats definetly 8.4-8.6 range. as for the 60s that look really good for street tires.

Am I missing something? You're running a HKS supercharger right? Why is the horsepower output so low? I dynoed at 245hp bone stock. With mods I pulled

R/T..........0.330
60'...........2.073
330..........5.855
1/8..........8.959
MPH.........80.15

ALL Mods: JWT Popcharger, Pro1 Exhaust, OBX Y-pipe, 255 KDW2's, Tanabe GF210 Springs

I don't see how you pulled 8.859 @ 82.70 with 90 HP more to the ground than me. How fast are you shifting? It looks like you need to really need to work on the launch, and shifting. I would suggest practicing in a SAFE environment, on your launching. I'm running BFG g-Force KDW2's 255/40/18. When I went to the track, I got 4 runs in. The first run I launched at 2500rpm, and bogged. Second run I launched at 3k rpm, and still bogged. Third run I launched at 3500rpm and bogged, again. Fourth run I launched at 4000rpm and STILL bogged. I wish I could have got another run in. My point is, launch at a low rpm. If you bog, try incrementally increasing rpms. Also, how you release the clutch is a very important factor. If you are experiencing wheel hop, which is where the rear axle is bobbing up and down violently at launch, then you are shocking the driveline. You need to "preload" the clutch, which is when you hold the clutch out just enough before the launch to where you can feel it start to catch, but not enough to move. Then, when you actually launch, you need to feather the clutch instead of dumping it. This will result in a smooth and efficient power delivery.

Next is the shifting. The only thing you can do is practice, practice, practice. Try to focus on making you left leg faster. Most people can jam the gears just fine, but then there foot is left catching up. Please take all of what I say as constructive criticism. I never meant to step on someone's toes. I hope it helps. It's always good to see a fellow Z driver taking it to the track.

dude, something is wrong with your car. i actually ran better than those times with a KnN, plenum spacer and test pipes. it was a week or two after i got the car so it was still stock height and everything was stock on the car.

you definently have something you need to get checked out. i would take somewhere and have someone look at it if you dont know a lot about cars...

good luck man

this was on slicks without warming them up at all, cause i wasnt sure with this car, didnt want to break anything right when i got it. and 18 psi in them. but the car was basically stock, only test pipes, KnN, plenum spacer

60 1.90
333 5.685
1/8 8.764
mph 80.84
1000 11.404
1/4 13.621
mph 101.77

i am much more knowledgable on my launches now, this was a 3500 rpm launch and bogging really bad, but you get the idea...

2:15 AM: The 2.0 second 60 foot time is OK, then you missed a shift for a terrible 9.5 second 1/8 mile.

1:30 AM: This is your best run. A 2.0 60 foot time would have given you a respectable 8.72 second 1/8 mile.

With practice you will be running a 84 mph 1/8 mile.

Don’t be concerned about reaction time. Heck these are just test & tune runs. When you get more practice and see consistent numbers, then you can practice reaction time.

I assume that the red light is set to 0.50 seconds. I am looking at 6 numbers, and none look appropriate for a 0.0 second light. Unless of course all you guys were napping.

thanks all for you responses..I guess it boils down to practice...Practice..then practice again..I am thinking on working the 60' times better, with maybe some drag rads...tryin to get out again maybe the 18th...for some more practice..thanks again all for all the input..if there's more..bring it.. Knowledge is the 1st step to resolve!

im not trying to be a dick here but does anyone understand he has an HKS SuperCharger on this car. right now i am running 84.5 mph in the 1/8th with KnN, pulleys, plenum spacer and test pipes NA. i think that there might be something wrong with this car. i would take it somewhere and get it tuned. it might be running really rich or lean and killing your power. im sure it should have much more potential.

good luck!!

You have a good attitude.

Its possible to look at your horsepower then estimate what you should be running. That is kind of silly. What matters is what you are running not what you should be. With practice you will see consistency and better ET. Its possible to improve by 0.10 seconds each time out. And 0.10 seconds is a big deal. So keep in mind that your adversary is not other 350Z owners, but yourself.

Have fun. Be safe.

Audible Mayhem- Thanks for your input. I know that the car is running well. I have had it tuned, and it is doing 335rwhp, tuned on the dyno, w/11.5 AF in full boost, as read on my AEM wideband.
davidv-I agree with you 100%! it has been about 7 years since I been on the track at all, and this it he 1st time in the Z. So as I practice, the times/mph/et's will improve..

I know that my shifting needs improvement, missed shifts and even shifting too late (remembering the flashing shift light). I,personally, will take all info into account and will be "testing and tuning" again on the 18th at Irwindale...if anyone is interested in joining me and few buddies from work..prolly round 5-ish... I don't know that I will have my DR by then, but I'll be out there at least 1-2 times a month during this open season, and attending some of the events around so/no/cent cal...
and davidv-I had a blast,,,and am itchin' to get out again..it's addictive, even tho it is only 1/8 mile, to be able to open up and not worry about peds, or any surprises...
oh, and Audible no worries man I see ur point too...on the real!

ya'all take it to track...see ya there!

OH, and the inside lane at irwindale is not 100% flat, couldn't sit there and rev up the engine to get off the line..I kept rollin' out...hehehe or maybe it was my lost experience..hehehe

i agree with davidv too. your reaction time is not important on these runs because they are using a .500 tree and when you leave should have no effect on you et. just be concerned with your shifting first, then 60', then when all that has been worked out, play with your reaction time more.

once you have gotten that worked out, you'll be back here with much better times.

You needa work on the 60 foot times and the shifting...I got my 60 foot down a few weeks ago but now I needa work on my shifting...I'll see ya there on the 18th. I'm rolling with my G (greddy @ 9psi 406rwhp), my friends camaro SS w/ a few mods, his friends modded SRT-4, hopefully my other friends modded RX-7, and hopefully my friends stock CTS-V (he broke the rear diff a few weeks ago at irwindale!)
If this was your first time, you actually did pretty good compared to me!
My first time with the TT setup, I hit a best of like 8.8 @ 87. The next week I got it down to an 8.3 @ 87 so I'm hoping I can do better on teh 18th.
I'm probably gonna try n get there as early as possible to get a lot more runs in. PM me for more details.

You definitely need to work on the shifting. The 60ft is important, but the shifting is hurting your times more. You have to shift fast, and close to the limiter, without hitting it.

ya. threw a rod and god knows what else. I don't really wanna talk about it but im probably gonna get a built engine and a beater. I don't think I'll be hitting up the tracks anymore either. This **** is ridiculous for a motor swap.

Irwindale is a .500 light and yes you tend to roll on the launch pad. I always use just a bit of the hand break you don't need much.
you're 60' is pretty decent for street tires but yes you're shifting needs work. You should be running around 8.3 there based on your hp.

I will be back there this coming thursday (5//25)I had to get new ET Streets my old ones are all run down, just got them mounted today Can't wait to take her out again.
Let me know if your running as well
