take the traction control off, and just give some good gas in first. you really do NOT need to heat up street tires. the stock 040s tend to get gummy if they get too hot. so just a good quick once around should do the job. where you gonna race? LACR, Irwindale, Perris of Qualcomms parking lot?

I usually just feather the clutch out in first at around 4k rpm. Spin them for about 2-3 seconds, just enough to clean them off. Street tires SHOULD NOT be warmed up.

1. Go around the water.
2. Hold the revs at 4k.
3. Don't drop the clutch, but smoothly let it out in under 1/2 a second or so.
4. Hold the revs around 6200 to 6500 rpm for 2-3 seconds.
5. Push the clutch in and let off the gas at the same time.

The idea is to make the tires spin to get rid of any debris. Don't worry about rolling foward while doing this, because you will definitely roll forward. But don't hold it for too long. Without using the brakes, if you are rolling past ANY of the staging lines, its too long.

just make sure you go AROUND the water please. that is the key. the just rev it up to about 4 grand and drop the clutch. let the tires spin for about one second with street tires. it is just enough to spin any dirt or rocks off them and maybe a little bit of water the people before you might have drug up outta the box...

+1. Street tires are designed not to get hot. Don't play Ricky Drag Racer in the water box.

pretend you are a smiley and do the following steps:

seriously, you'll get a feel for it after your legs stop shaking... the first time is very nerve racking, and my legs still get shaky from the adrenaline rush.

No, don't warm them up. Just clean them a bit if you feel the need.

I think most people feel launching around 2k RPM's is the best for a tractable start.

what do you do when you have no choice but to drive through the box? some places are set up that you cannot go around.

then i would probably do a little bit of a burnout to make sure the water was heated up enough to come off the tires. i would rather take the chances of them being too hot and not as sticky than wet at all...
