Talking 13.9 at 101 on 225/50/15s?

well.. it seemed like there was no way in hell I was going to do any better than a 2.3 60ft at Englishtown this past saturday so I decided to slap a friend's 225/50/15 BFG DRs on and see what I can do.

Obviosly, these tires' circumference was way too small but more importantly, they were too narrow to get traction. But guess what! They had more traction than my 275 street tires with 8k miles (Toyo T1Rs) and lowered my gearing a bit for better acceleration. But the problem was that I redlined way before the finish line and I did not want to shift. So I chose to keep bouncing off the stock rev limiter till I crossed the line. How did the dinky tires and wheels look like on my car? Like sh*t! lol!!! But they, it was an experience, and it was my first time on DRs, definitely not the last. I see no reason why I should burn up my nice T1Rs when getting no real traction anyway so it's time to step up.. I'm looking to get hoosiers pretty soon since I can get a good deal thru a friend.. so watch for better times on here. And no, I will not mod anything until I get better times with this setip because I just know the car has more to go in it for sure.

Results are below. Any advice or criticism is welcome as usual.

Yeah I know.. it's time to slap on some real tires and run mid 13s... My car is bone stock other than jwt intake and test pipes. Spare and tools were removed. A bit more than half tank of gas.

Also, I was disappointed to see I was the only Z racing!!!!! There was one G35 and another Z that was there for show only. But no other Zs racing! Come and guys, I know there are tons of Zs around PA and NJ. I'm assuming some of you guys raced on Sunday, I was there only for Saturday.

oh .. and obviously, I was car #607

left lane on the first slip, right lane on the second

too bad I underestimated this setup and dialed in at 14.2. I won first round against a WRX but I was too fast on second round by 0.04 seconds and I broke out. But hey, it was fun anyway... and I wasn't there to win the bracket.

The times look good. If trap speed is 100mph plus, thats good. The problem is 60-foot times and I don't think the solution is bigger drag tires. Those tires are good for 1.8X seconds. Practice.

I don't understand about shifting to fifth gear. Fourth gear is good for 102mph plus.

on that size tire? if so they could be bald and even shorter than they are supposed to be and overstated size from the manufacturer as well

oh yeah, they were close to being bald.. and that size tire wasn't good for 102 in 4th.. it was good for.. well, the trap you see on there I was already redlining.

I just didn't shift into 5th because I thought that would waste time being so close to the finish line. If the tires were just a little bit taller, 4th would be ok. I tried shifting into 5th my first time out and found out that just keeping it in 4th was better.

But yeah, I do definitely need practice.. and lots of it. Maybe I didn't do a big enough burn out, I'm not sure. I would pull out to the water box, dump the clutch WITHOUT applying the brakes and sit there until it got traction and launched me forward. Maybe I should use the brakes and keep it in the box for a couple seconds longer and heat them up real well.

I do definitely want bigger tires though.. maybe not so much of added traction, but definitely for gearing. I think if I had 245-255s on 50 sidewall, I could have had slightly better trap and maybe even better traction with the amount of burn out I did. But yeah, I'm looking forward to having much better 60fts.. I was getting frustrated on street tires.

That is wild that those small wheels/tires caused you to have to shift to 5th @ around 100 MPH. That still seems low.

you think so?

The circumference on those is about 75" if they were new, I guess it was even less because they were pretty worn.

Stock is about 84" !!!! So that must lower the gearing quite a bit.

By the way, I always liked your setup done12many2, do you have dyno numbers on/off the bottle?

Hoosiers? You're not planning on driving to the track on QTPs, are you? :-)

And he surely won't fit them in his Z to transport them to the track. What's your plan Mojo?

We'll have to see about making it, it depends if a certain something is finished by then. Nate's galant is broken, blew the motor that night at the Grove (flat bed home) and no plans to fix it anytime soon, he needs a new block. He's planning to do some more mod's to the Evo, but hasn't received parts yet. Worst case maybe we'll bring the Talon with the big turbo so I can blow your doors off :-P just kidding. Call me will ya?

By the way- are you mounting your new tires to the wheels you have? Or did you get new wheels too?
