Default drag racing.. rims, weight vs size

Going to the drag strip soon and was wondering what I would run my best times with. Should I run 19 inch BBS wheels= 46 pounds with 285/35 tires or stock 17s = 49 pounds with 235/50 tires?

I know unsprung weight is important but with the mass of the 19's pushed further away from the center then the 17s?

stock 17's the bigger wheels will slow you down

Would the extra grip make up for that, as well being 3lbs less?

rotational mass is different from just weight.
thats like saying should i get a 14 pound flywheel orjust take my spear and kack set out. Its not the same thing. and also run on the 19s if you have good tires it will grip more than the 17s

Still doesn’t answer the question if the extra grip would make up for the larger rim. Yeah I also agree with taking out the spare, I have done that a few times.

Put the 235 tires in the front and the 285 in the rear.

You should try both and tell us what happens. I say run the 17" with 23.5 psi.

I just found out that my 16" wheels/drag radials weigh about five pounds more than my 18" wheels/street tires. The 16s are 3/4" inch shorter though. Any thoughts on what effect this is going to have?

A shorter rim would give you better acceleration since the radius smaller.

It all depends on the variables. You have to guesstimate whether not the advantage of the better gearing will outweigh the advatange the lighter weight wheel. If the wheel/tire combo is much shorter than stock but only weighs 3-5 more pounds, then yes I would say use it. But you also must consider traction.

the smaller the circumferance of the tire the shorter the gearing is going to be? shorter gearing= faster acceleration..

a couple of pounds per tire isnt going to make up the differance going to taller gearing with the tires. now if the over all circumferance is minimal then the lighter tires might be the route to go

but you would have to be considerably lighter to make i differance.

15x 8 welds 14.5lb + 26x15x 10 ET.
( 20 lb = 34.5 lb.) 19 roja formula 5 with 275x 35x19 = 53.4 lb. diff 20 lb. total saved = 40 lb on back tires and rims. There is no contest in the difference in grip.
Best 60ft times on 19's 1.895. Will run the new set up on june 24.
car is a 5 AT stillen stage 4.

The shorter wheel setup of mine has drag radials on them.

How did you pull a 1.895 those your car have a stall converter how much power you making.
