Default My night at the drag strip..

Very dissapointing to say the least..
Got like 5 runs in, so that was good, but it was hot, humid, and this new fire jacket rule sucks.Anyone with an aftermarket power adder, regardless of time, needs a fire jacket, that they convieniently sell at the track for $80 This thing wont stop a cigarette burn, cmon...
Anyhow,
first run of the night : BFG 315/35/17's , Got a decent burn out, came out of the hole 2.11 60 ft, then missed 2nd gear, REAL BAD...Ran a 13.0 @121...
2nd run: good burn out, came out of the whole slipping and sliding with a 2.25 60 ft, ran a 12.0@124, had to get of and on the throttle in 1st gear to get traction..
3rd run: Wont even discuss.... Missed 2nd AND 3rd..Ran a 13.3 and still beat a 12 second EVO to the end..Dont ask...
4th run: came out with a 1.98 60 ft after lowering the tire pressure to about 24psi cold..Ran good, except missed 5th gear and coasted through the traps at 11.90@111 Go figure...

Finally after much disscussion with my buddy, I figured out that perhaps it would be a good idea to let the vehicle in the opposing lane leave first and concentrate mostly on our own driving. We were most likely getting nervous and distracted..

5th run: Let the Rustang next to me go with a 2 second lead, my reaction time was 2.85 lol
I pulled a 1.91 60 ft a little better, but not great, hit every gear concentrating on actually making the shift rather than banging it in and power shifting..Was very relaxed, and ran 11.6@127 still not a great time but much better..I think I am starting to get the car dialed in comming out of the hole a little better but I still need to cut a 1.6 60 ft to make any real time...
Anyhow, back to more practice..Keep in mind this is only like the 10th time running the 1/4 mile with 3 different tire set ups and states of tune..We will get there
FLAMESUIT> ON...

Like you said, practicing is the key. I get nervous when lined up and sometimes forget to focus on my own technique.

Still, those are pretty good times you posted.

Time slips provide a lot of valuable information. They are more easy to read than writing numbers in the forum.

+1 on ditching those DR's, run some slicks-will make your 1.6 short time goal much easier IMO. If you do decide to stick with DR's though, run them at a lower pressure, for the power your making 24psi cold is way to high. Try running 20lbs and lower it 1lbs per run if not enough, Ive seen people run as low as 15lbs in them. Regardless, your improving so I wouldnt be dissapointed. What rpm are you launching at and what are your shift points? Also what is your redline set to, and is it adjustable?

What shifter are you using? My B&M (that I recently replaced with a stock shifter) caused me to miss 2nd on numerous occasions.

+2 if you are sticking with the DR I would drop the tire pressure to 18lbs is what I was thinking. I would also recommend adjusting one variable at a time. First change the tire pressure. Find a good pressure. Then work on getting your shifts down and making sure the power transfer is smooth. Who cares what the guy in the other lane is doing....you are trying to post your best time not beat the guy in the other lane.

Keep praticing and good luck.......

Dropping a couple of tenths is a good improvement. Try dropping that tire pressure down - it likely will help you out. Or just ditch the DRs entirely.

That firejacket rule is completely stupid. So some kid in his 16 second civic who just installed a wimpy little turbo kit on his car and got it into the 15s has to wear a frickin fire jacket to run at that track? lol - what track was this again? I'll have to remember never to go there.

Why did you go with a 28" tire? You'll still be in 5th gear, I would have stayed with 26" because you'll also finish in 5th gear just in better powerband....

Cause with a 28" It will lower the gearing and I wont have to be in 5th gear as long..Idealy you want to run through in 4th gear ti minimize shifting..

With 125+ traps, you'll still be in 5th though. All things being equal (launch, shifts, shift points) the shorter gearing car will be faster down the 1/4. Curious to see how the 28" works out for you, all we ever see is 26" set-ups. Will be way better than DR's though...

yeah i am going to try 28s that i have here, i have thought about it and i think they will work fine, 26s might end up all the way through 5th.

i mean we were topping out 4th gear at 114 with them, im curious to see what will happen.

MT ET streets WTF, those are girl tires, you need some et drags, then you will get closer to low 1.6s, you might need a 100 shot off the line too!!

we will get there soon.....
