Default My E-town times..Questions about DR's and wheels

So I went to Englishtown last night in the blistering heat. My best was a 14.1 @99. The rest of my runs were from there to 14.4, all over 100. I played with tire pressure all night (21 to 38), and still I couldnt get traction for my life, while the car felt like crap the rest of the time down the track. Noone was getting good times so I didnt feel so that bad.
My question, What size 17" tire and wheel should I get?. I want to go a little smaller so I can use 4th gear a little longer, and hopefully help a bit to get the time down a little. I know I could have got 13's if conditions were better.

P.S. I have an 06 with I/E.

Smaller tires make the wheels spin faster, larger make it slower.for me Im deep into 5th gear by top end.If you want to not have to shift out of 4th then go a bit larger diameter tire. try playing with some of the online tire size calculators and see what is about 1" overall bigger than stock. Were gonna go to Etown tommorow night if you want to come back down..

He wont ever shift out of 4th the standard Z's redline 4th at 112mph, his Revup even higher(likely around 120mph). If he was able to optimize traction, then a smaller diamter tire, something like a 26" (not sure what the stock revup diameter is) would help him wind out 4th more, effectively change his gearing and make acceleration quicker. IMO its absolutely worthless to go to a bigger tire because of traction issues, he just needs more seat time once he gets it down he'll be better off.

I'm not worried about getting to 5th, its just that I'm shifting into 4th almost @ the 1/4 mile mark. I got over 10 runs the other night, and a whole bunch in my old cars. I'm pretty comfortable @ the track, I was just wondering what size wheel/tire you guys are using. I was thinking like a 265/40?45? 17 might do it.
Thanks

If your running a 265/45/17 the overall diameter will be 25.3" and 796 rev per min if you go with a 275/35/17 the diameter will be 24.6 and 821 rev per min. This reduction in diameter will be like changing you final gearing to an extent..

Please scan and post time slips so I can see 60-foot times. Thanks.

265/45 17 would be nice if Julians calc's are correct. Stock gearing is larger than 26", so 25.3" diameter is great as it will shorten your gears and help put you more into 4th gear.

i would stick with your tires now, maybe put some BFG DRs on the stock rims at most. if you play with your tire size right now and then do some stuff to your car and make it faster, you will probably wish you didnt change it. i would just get some more power!!!!!

Yes, post a time slip.

I use MT DR's mounted on RX7 wheels, for the drag strip. They work quite well.

my 60' ranged from 2.4 to 2.5 all night. My 14.1 was the first run of the night(and my car). 2.19 60' with 99mph. I'm at work right now so I cant put up the slips.
A lot of fwd cars were driving through the water and making launching extremely difficult for everone else.
Thanks Alberto, 45 it is
I was looking at sizes, and Nitto has a 245/45/17. The BF doesnt come in a ***/45/17?

If your best 60-foot time was 2.19 seconds, I am thinking that track conditions deteriorated as the night wore on. As you mentioned, new racers drag water from the water box to the staging pad. Mix water and 80 percent humidity, and the staging pad is like a slip-and-slide.

I agree with Performance Factory. Work with what you got until you can run 2.0 second 60-foot times. Then it is time to look for tires.

Not sounding ignorant, but I was wondering what size tires I should use, not that I should get better on my existing.
I just want to get some DR's and call it a day.

MRC, I'm probably going next Wednesday night. If I can get tires by then..
