Default argument settling time

okay so my friend showed me this video with a 1st generation (135 hp) mazda rx7 street racing a z and demolishing it.

the maker of the video claims that he simply added a 12 psi turbo and that made his car so much faster than a z.(like twice as fast)

so can someone please tell me i'm not insane when i say that adding a 12psi turbo will not make a 9.2 second 0-60 car suddenly capable of smoking a 5.4second 350z.

i really hope i'm not the only one that thinks that the guy must have far more under the hood than he claims.

Hmm not sure but I do know the 1st generation RX7 is pretty light compared to the heafty 350z

RX-7 Curb Weight = 2600 lbs
350z Curb Weight = 3300 lbs

Also the 1st geneartion HP was 146 HP with the factory turbo version 182 HP, He might of had the factory turbo version and just modded it <shrug>

all i know is every site i have seen says that a 1st gen runs 0-60 of around 9-10 seconds

what kind of magic 12 psi turbo turns a 9 second car into something capable of murdering a z?

Maybe he's got some laughing gass on top of the turbo <shrug> or maybe he paid the 350z driver to take a dive

Hard to tell without actually looking at his engine, he might of done a engine swap and is just BS'ing everyone with the "Im running a stock engine with a turbo" <shrug>

I had an 84 1st gen with a street port and and racing beat exhaust and it was pretty fast and I believe the curb weight for an 84 was 2200 lbs other than that it would'nt beat a Z but there is alot you can do to improve power on the rx 7 But I bet that guy that raced the Z had a built motor of some kind-do you know if it was a 12A or a 13b motor

i have seen that video that u speak of
it really seems that the rx-7 guy was lying about his engine or the Z driver was not very good, i recall the Z owner saying "you cheat" at the end(bottle) lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn_J3i1fxWI

that's the video he showed me

look at the end is the closest thing to a drag, the rest is just follow the leader

tell me if you think it sounds, looks, performs like a over 20 year old 135 horsepower car with only 12psi of boost.

looks to me like either a shell of an rx7 with some engine translplant or an rx7 against a friend in a z who was paid to lose....

I dont understand how he was able to "slow down" and managed to still cut him off. Was he ahead of him by that much? I swear I heard him sqweel his tires because of the intense braking.

alright well thanks for the input, but basically my question is, do you think the guy really has an rx7 with 12 psi or a little someting more under the hood?

i personally don't think 12 psi of boost is gonna turn a car half as fast as a z into something capable of demolishing it.

then how did I double mine on 10lbs of boost?

PSI doesn't directly correlate to HP. If I did some headwork and cams, I'd make even more power on the same 10lbs of boost that I'm running right now...

With 1 bar (14.7psi) of boost, my car would be near 600whp which is WELL over double the original output.

PSI is pressure, NOT FLOW.

12psi in a t88 can FLOW more than twice the amount of air than 24psi in a t3.

Maybe ask how much CFM his turbo pushes not psi
